Reversers

I've always wondered this...on old piston liners like the Super Connie's..the R-3350's had reversing propellers...now does that mean the engine did like a jet and spun the other way?...or was it just the propellers?

Jets don't spin the other way either. The thrust is just re-directed to the front. With the prop, they reverse the "pitch" through gearing & levers in the prop hub.
