Tyre smoke on touchdown

Anyone know how to turn this off?

For my low tech (P3) system it soaks up a big wedge of frame rate when I touch town so completely spoiling the landing both in real time from the cockpit or in instant replay from the tower.

Any answers in very simple step by step language please.

Hi Neil,

Go to your Effects folder in 2002. Find the two files named "fx_tchdwn.fx" And "fx_tchdwn_s.fx" and rename them to something else. Example, just add bk to the end of both.......That will stop the smoke.

You might want to try this file first if it’s the large aircraft causing your problem.

There might be two other ways to eliminate it altogether if the above isn’t satisfactory.

1. Open the offending aircraft’s cfg file with notepad and find this section some do and some don’t.

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_spray
dirt=fx_tchdrt
concrete=fx_sparks
touchdown=fx_tchdwn, 1

Change to look like this:

[EFFECTS]
wake=fx_wake
water=fx_spray
dirt=fx_tchdrt
concrete=fx_sparks
//touchdown=fx_tchdwn, 1

2. Open the effects folder and locate a file named fx_tchdwn this one is for the larger aircraft and there is another one named fx_tchdwn_s that is for the smaller aircraft. Just remove the one you want or both if you like BUT BE SURE YOU SAVE Them in case you want to put them back in at a later date.

Don´t be too sure it´s the smoke that spoils your landing, though. It is believed to be the touchdown sound being loaded that causes the shuttering when landing.
