Thread: Slow Frame Rates

    Default Slow Frame Rates

    Here are my specs:
    Asus A7V333
    AMD XP 2000
    512 of ddr ram
    ATI Radeon 9700 pro

I am getting 30 frames when I am not looking towards a populated part of the airport. (Where AI planes are at) As soon as i look (point) towards the ai traffic i drop to 1.7 frames a second. They AI aircraft really slows me down. I just upgraded the video card and have deleted all traces of the old card. I deleted the fs200s.cfg. I am lost at what to do? Is 1.7 the best I can do with all the slidders maxed out? I would sure love some advice from all you guys out there to help me get my frame rates up........ Thanks

Lets see now, are your ai aircraft default? All sliders maxed out will give you low frames you know...

Try locking your frames at 15 or so, then see what happens. Or turn down ai a bit (70%), experiment with other sliders.

Sometimes when you upgrade a componant in your PC, even if you remove all traces, it still may be slower than full speed if you know what I mean. What OS are you using? 98/XP? Also make sure that all your drivers are new (inc mobo, video).

I think your processor is here the problem.... try setting AI to 80%... but 1.7 fps is realy too low for your machine...

I am getting 15fps all set to max in well crouded areas...

This is definatley a mystery. I'm getting 15-20 in densely populated areas and 20 all the time elsewhere and your hardware is considerably better than mine. I have all sliders maxed and all options and boxes checked too. Maybe you could try another video driver? Simon Evans is our resident driver expert so if you make a polite post to get his attention next time he's on, you should be able to get some advice from him.

How do you know when it's time to upgrade your computer? As soon as you get the latest copy of flightsim, it's time!

Can't see what the cause might be from here, but I agree that you should definitely be getting better all-round frames than that. Is the fps slider locked to a reasonable value..?

The only thing I can suggest is to look for newer.updated drivers for the mobo - if it's a via chipset, which I think it is, there are new 4-in-1 drivers that are said to give improvements - possibly they are better matched to the Radeon drivers you are using.

Also, which version of DirectX are you using..? Might be worth looing at upgrading that, especially as you have the rollback option under XP.

Thanks so much for all the advice. I have direct X 8. My new mobo came with direct x 9. I have not installed it. Could my sound card be the problem? I have a basic sound blaster live card in there. I am just confused, I thought I had a pretty good system not great but above average. Before I put thisnew video card in, I was getting 1 frame per ..... now I am getting 1.7 in the populated areas...... I will go and check myfps slider to make sure it islocked to a reasonable value......

I will put it down to 15 on the frames slider and see what happens....

I moved the fps slider to 15 instead of 30, it got me a 1.8 fps. Is it just that my amd xp 2000 chip is to slow?

Well mine runs fine...There is really something gone wrong with the drivers/OS/software. Your hardware is fine, if it was not, then you would most likly have crashes/lockups.
