I have been reading about this new release and can't figure out if it is an addon to fs2002 or a whole new simulator. Any of u know? If it is a whole new sim, is to hold back a fs2004 to fs2005 or fs2006?
Thanks, Ben

It's a whole new simulator, although many here will try to argue that it's just an upgrade to FS2002. There won't be an option to "upgrade from FS2002" so you'll have to install it as if you've never had FS2002.
I think we should call it FSCOF or COF because that's what it is, NOT FS2004 or FS2003. It's kind of getting on my nerves. Wait until the next sim comes out and we'll call it whatever its named too. This could turn into a big deal with newbies coming to the site wandering what FS2004 is.
Hope that answered your Q's!
It is simply the "new" version of simulator which follows the same time schedule as others have. It just does not carry through with the FS98-2000-2002, etc., name designation.

Actually, I believe that it isn't exactly following the same time schedule. It's being released sooner than usual for the FS2004 version and this might be why a few people are getting confused as to whether it is a FS2004 or an upgrade to FS2002.
One would have expected FS2004 release for the usual Thanksgiving (in the States) market and this one is as quoted:
"Microsoft Flight Simulator: A Century of Flight will arrive on store shelves in the summer of 2003 at an estimated retail price of $54.95"

It is my understanding that this IS 2004. But as has been already added, it is a new simulator and thus like FS4 and on evetually to 2002, we are seeing a paradigm shift with a name change. I am actually excited about it. I tried to reload 98 yesterday on my machine and it wasn't happening, and truly, I do love the current iteration of FS.

I just noticed the new FS-ACOF file section at flightsim.com - filled with videos. Did anyone/everyone else see this?

"The problem with sky diving is that when you crash, your body is the first thing to hit the ground"

We just posted our first article on FS-ACOF. This should answer some questions:

Coffee, anyone?
FS2002 was a few months late due to the events of Sept.11 which prevented an October release.
FS ACF will be a few months early to make use of the Century of Flight festivities.
Together it makes the release cycle seem shorter than usual, but neither change in itself from the normal cycle is all that big.
