Any experience with Directx 8.2 and ATI Radeon 7200?

I saw a post from an ATI user wishing he had not installed Directx 8.2. That was a couple of weeks ago and it was not noted which ATI card he had.

If there was a subsequent post from another ATI user, I have not found it. Anyone else with a Radeon card have any experience (pro or con) to share. I have the 64 mg, Radeon 7200.

It's hard to ignore a potential FS improvement, especially after reading posts such as Simon's regarding his own (albeit Nvidia) experience. I have the Direct Player 8.2 exe. file that Simon directed us to just sitting here waiting to be unzipped.

Don't do it !!!! I have ATI 7500 with 8.1. I put in 8.2 and quality became very poor: with shimering on scenery ( flashing) . I have never had problems with my 7500 card and have had it nearly a year. I have tried numerous Nvida cards, which i found were very poor for colour and brightness.... I took them all back !!!!!!!! I also use an ATI 7200 and find that there is not a lot of difference between both cards: both are great.
PS: there was also no change in frame rates with 8.2

I have the 8500 LE and let me tell you it is like night and day!! Much better impovements on my machine....at first I lost the ability to see other aircraft while on vatsim...after much trial and error I finally got the right combo of:
The latest video card driver for my machine
I reinstalled Squawk
And then Whamo!!! I could see aircraft

Pent 4 1.6 Ghz
512 Mb ram
128 Mb ram ATI 8500 LE
Windows XP pro (without SP1)
FS2002 pro

Thanks, gents. Gordon, did you install the full Directx 8.2 file or simply upgrade Directx via the installation of the new Direct Player file as Simon had suggested?

I did the full install,to be fair I think it was the pre-microsoft release which then came out 2 days later.My download was about 27 meg, I think microsoft is 29 meg,may make a diff but I dont think you require it with ours.In my case it runs perfect without 8.2,but you know the problems the nvida and 8500 guys have had, so probably with 8.2 theirs is looking nearly as good as ours now. No hate mail please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
