POSKY 777-200LR Plane Bouncing when fuel load reduced

Hello!

 

Longtime flight simmer, first time poster. I am having an issue with the Project OpenSky 777-200LR. When I taxi or perform any ground maneuvers with a reduced fuel load the main gear of the airplane bounces violently and creates a lot of smoke (see attached image). When I taxi with a full fuel load, I do not have this problem. I have done some research and have looked at adjusting the contact points in the aircraft.cfg and have even read about not changing your view in the simulator (to prevent from the mesh complexity to reload) but have not had any success. My only thought is that when the airplane has a reduced load, the contact points are no longer most correct, thus causing the erratic bouncing.

 

I would greatly appreciate anybody's help on this issue!

Use them instead of the ones being used! What exact download are you using...link or filename if it came from our library. I'll look at the aircraft.cfg and show you what you need to do!

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Make a backup copy of the original aircraft.cfg file.

 

Then open the aircraft.cfg file of that aircraft. To make a change.

 

Scroll down to the section that starts with:

[Contact Points]

below it you wil see:

point 0=

point 1=

etc.

each point is followed by a line of numbers. The numbers make up the points position, specification and such.

 

Below that set of points some planes have a second set, that is switched off.

Those look like this:

//point 0=

//point 1=

 

// in front of a line means fsx will not read or execute the line.

 

To use the alternative contact points, add

//

in front of the normal contact points, and remove the

//

in front of the lines of the second set.

 

Then close and save the aircraft.cfg file.

 

Start fsx. Do some taxiing in the plane to see if it is succesful.

Just doing a quick download of a POSKY 777-200LR that I found and looking in the aircraft.cfg, I found no alternate set of contact points. This may prove to be very interesting! Stay tuned! Film at 11:00:rolleyes:

 

UPDATE: I am beginning to think all POSKY 777-200s only have 1 set of [contact points].

 

It may have been 777-300er that have alternates.

Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!  ✈️

Before cuttingblindly in the goop, (meaning, before, or while, setteling in for a 40 min download in case it is like that again) concider:

this seems to have 12 wheels or so!!!!

 

Maybe // a few ones out.

 

PS: no' a drop! I stick to water and coffee in this heat.

I did a quick change. Hope it works.

I did not download the plane to test.

 

What I did.

point.0 and point.1 were two(!) front wheels. one on the left, one on the right.

I switched them off with //

 

I created a new point.0

this point has the wheel in the centerline of the plane.

 

It's hit and hope, but point.2 and point.3 look ok as two main wheels.

 

The rest of the points, point 4--to--point.13 are wheels you don't want.

No need for more then 3 wheels on a fsx plane.

 

(btw, you can see they are wheels by the first number after the = sign.

for example:

point.1=1, 76.243, etc, etc

first number=one, so it's a wheel.

point.13=1, -5.0, 15.291,

first number=one, so it's another a wheel.

)

 

Here is the result.

Edit the aircraft.cf file to look like this.

 

Be aware, I did not test this out, do not have the plane.

So, be sure to make a Backup of the file first!

 

Leave the other points, point.14 and further, in place.

Looks like you did the edits just fine.

 

 

Sorry, it was because I had only left the two left wheels enabled.

 

After a quick change it now has a nosewheel, (same as before.)

and a left and right wheel.

Some planes have many wheels, don't know why really. I don't use them much.

There is a cahnce that mrzippy comes with a much better fix tomorrow.

Try this for now, but don't loose sight of the thread.

 

I may have a closer look later as well.

(I'm thinking maybe instead of using point.2 and point.8 you could use point.6 and point.12

not sure what's better.)

There are 2 problems. One is that there are all LEFT WHEEL BRAKES ('1' values) and NO RIGHT WHEEL BRAKES ('2'). Check for 2 lefts ('1') and 2 rights ('2') in each group. First fix this problem and go try it. Since POSKY uses XML for wheels, this might be all that's wrong. But check below.

 

The other (MAYBE) the compression values that may be causing the wheel problems. Here is the fix. The 'best' values are at end of '------' lines. Copy / Paste the values to lines below. The 1st values are for (point.0 and point.1). The second values are for (point.2 and point.3). The 3rd values are for all the lines below it (point.4 thru point.13). That's it. Save. Go try. Give me some feedback. I did not install it, just worked on cnt pts section. But I am going to install it now and try it myself. Just trying to get to you before 1 am (hehe).

As there are a huge amount of Poskies available, an alternative solution would be to try another download .

Most popular liveries are available in multiple downloads of the favourites.

Poskies are usually pretty trouble free in operation.

They can be somewhat tricky at times concerning various updated service packs ,model updates etc ,but my experience of them is predominantly a very good one.

 

Anyways thoughts

You can have all the wheels if you want. What is causing the smoke (which is not indication of damage to gear) is the (Effects) line for smoke. (Notice they commented the line for 'Sparks' out). In (Effects) section in aircraft cfg change to this for much less smoke: touchdown=fx_tchdwn_s, 1

 

I went over the cnt pts with a fine tooth comb and re-ordered the wheels by position and changed the compression values (I left the scrapes 'as is'). Try these after you make change to (Effects) for smoke. You shouldn't see that HUGE puff of smoke when you transition from runway to tarmac or grass (only a TINY puff-OK? OK!).

Like I said before, POSKY models rely on XML for all aspects of gear animation, etc. So there is a limit as to what you can 'change' without ruining it all. Cheers.

I made a mistake, and just edited the cnt pts (had point sequence as '6, 7, 6, 7' instead of '6, 7, 8, 9'). Re-do any copy/paste you all did. Sorry about that.

 

IL. No problema. I like working on cnt pts. Strange that I never worked on POSKY cnt pts until now. It's all good.

I ended up downloading the 777-200LR Hawaiian that Mr.Zippy had mentioned and transferred the contact points from that aircraft.cfg file over to the one that I was using. All seems well so far! Will have to make a few runs in and out of ATL with it 😀.

 

Thank you so much for everyone's help. I know I have folks out there that will lend a helping hand to inexperienced simmers like myself when I am experiencing the wonderful hiccups that FSX is known to have!

I suggest save your current file off.

Suggest filename: aircraft -1- 300 with 200 points.cfg

 

then in the aircraft.cfg that fsx reads delete the 200 points. (delete 0-13).

And put Chucks points in instead.

 

The

//'explanation of point' lines

can be put in too. They start with // and fsx won't read them.

 

Chuck knows his contact points, and I think with those the plane will handle better.

 

You can always simply go back by swapping out the aircraft.cfg with the saved file.
