New X-Plane 9 flier here

Hi all,

I hope I am not missing an existing thread on this, but I just got xp 9.7+ installed and updated on my pc. I am trying to find some good scenery packs and planes (freeware) that will work on v9. However, most of what I am seeing is for v10 only. Can someone point me to a good location to get the correct files for meses/scenery/aircraft for this sim. As far as aircraft, I am looking for several basic planes: Grumman Goose, Cessna Caravan, and a good DC-3. I am not in the position to be able to purchase any at this time.

I also am coming over from FSX (which I really enjoy). I am looking for missions to fly as well. However, I am not finding much of anything. Usually, my search skills are almost ninja like, but they are failing me at this time.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

JP

Hi JP,

Welcome to the X-Plane forums here at FlightSim.com:D

Congratulations on X-Plane 9, you've chosen a great version of the sim (my favourite).

Regarding add-ons, have you searched the X-Plane section of the file library? Here you'll find almost 3000 downloads covering everything from aircraft to scenery.

For the aircraft you mentioned however, could I possibly suggest these:

Grumman Goose Classic

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=search&fsec=0&fname=goose_classic-v970.zip

Cessna 170B (not the Caravan I know, but a must have)

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?do=search&fsec=0&fname=cessna_170b_xp9.zip

DC-3

If you need help with scenery suggestions let me know :D

Happy flying!!

Dom,

Thank you so much for your help. I have downloaded the aircraft that you linked to. I shall be trying them out today.

As far as scenery, I have tried searching, but I guess my search skills are severely lacking :) I would definitely appreciate some scenery suggestions. Most of the scenery stuff I have seen states it is for XPlane 10. Hence why I seem to be struggling to find the meshes and scenery just for xplane 9.

Thank you again for your help. I really do appreciate it.

No worries JP:D

You know, instead of giving you one huge list, could you perhaps give me an idea of where you like to fly?

If you enjoy GA strips, then I can highly recommend sceneries created by my good friend Rik Nilsson:

Rik's sceneries are hugely atmospheric and a real joy to explore!

If you like bush flying, then here's another great community you might want to visit:

Highly recommended and very friendly!

Cheers

Dom,

Thanks a bunch. I will be checking all the links out.

My preferred flight type is bush flying, small/ medium GA aircraft. I love the Cessna 172 for just beginning flying. In FSX, I flew the Goose and DC-3 all the time. I also love flying in the mountains as well as in different weather patterns. I got spoiled with FSX's bush flying missions and rescues. I would also like to find a slightly better mesh for this sim. I will be picking up a new graphics card soon, which will help a whole lot on the eye candy side. I have the saitek pro flight yoke, rudder, throttle quadrant, radio stack, and switch stack. I got them working with the sim (finally) after many hours and getting frustrated and trying different things.

In real life, I wish I could afford to get my license (as well as to log the hours needed to keep it up to date). My grandfather has been a pilot for almost 60 yrs. I have flown with him countless times and have gained a love of flying. For now, though, I have too many responsibilities and have to satiate my desire to fly with a sim.

Thanks again!

JP
