Apologies -- for being Snappy -- I wasn't feeling well.

Just thought I'd let you know. I've been ill a long time. Three months.

Heard a constant low hum, and felt vibrations in the floor. As if the whole house was shaking.

Close by there are several building sites. Some with a huge extractor fan, and I thought some low frequency sound was driving me up the walls.

There were times I thought the house was about to collapse.

At first I thought it was something very close by. Strangely, the neighbours felt or heard nothing. And I noticed I felt it in other area's of town as well.

Anyway, it was horrible. The sonoric buzzing/vibrations were so bad I couldn't get to sleep. I often lay awake all night, only falling asleep after dawn broke.

I then often slept for only a few hours. Woke up and stayed awake. Slept a few more hours later in the day. And again sat awake through the next night.

That lasted for about three months at least. I didn't have much of an apitite and I lost 10 pounds during that time.

A couple of weeks ago I saw my local docter, wh diagnosed it as a infected equilibrium organ, and clogged up eustachius ducts and inner ear. I was already taking basic salt waster nose sprays. He gave me a prescription nose spray to help open the sinuses. That helped a little. I had a few restfull nights without buzzing noise, and finaly got some sleep.

I then added a few aspirine a day to the mix.

The strange thing. Even though I had experienced by then two times when clearing the nose stopped the sound, it still was hard to believe the sound was really just in my head.

It sounded so real! Like as if a large diesel truck is parked next to the house 24hrs a day.

Suddenly, yesterday morning, my sinusses drained. First the left one, then the right one shortly after.

I'm feeling much better. It's still not fully cleared up, but my head feels much lighter. I'm feeling less feverish.

Just my body is still straggling. I'm still a bit wobbly on my legs.

There were times I thought this would never go away again. So it is hard for me to say "I'm cured".

But I am cautiously optimistic now, first time in months. Hurray! Looks like the worst is behind me.

Coffee tasted soooooooo good this morning...

Now that I'm over the hump, I' suddenly very aware of how bad I am and was feeling. I'm shaky, wobbly on my legs, famished but still no appitite, tired but not sleepy...

Even just a quick trip to the local grocers was a struggle.

So, I'm over the hump, but it will take some more time to get back on my feet.

Some quick apologies:

I've been very distracted lately. Haven't been giving the forum my normal 100%.

Sorry if I've been a little snappy at some posters. I was a little short tempered here and there. Apologies.

Also a quick apology to 'jyd' (scenery design). I wish we met when I was feeling better. We'll do it over sometime I'm sure.

To Rishabk also. He sent me a PM that I didn't see untill a week after. No harm done. He fixed things himself in the mean time, But I hope I can be quicker next time.

Oh yes, an apology to StringBean also. He did me a huge favour and created a gauge. Apologies for not embracing it right away.

String, first impression is GREAT, but I would like to test it more. Also we should discuss a little about how to post exactly.

I hope we can hold off for a bit, a least a few days.

There are probably some others I'm forgetting.

I'm sure you will all understand. You're a great bunch. Having this forum while I was ill really helped. Gave me something to do, because Flying was impossible. Even if it is FSX flying is a no go with a severe sinus infection!! MS made this game way too realistic!:D:D

Happy flights all,

il

Glad to hear you are getting better! It's allergy season over here so I know about clogged sinuses!

Just like my mom used to say...."Nothing like a good enema to fix you right up."

With that, I shall take my leave! Stay well;)

Very glad you're getting better!

I didn't see anything you need to apologize for, but then I'm pretty thick slinned, so I may have just missed it.

Hope things get better and better for you. And that you get some quality rest. AND some more quality coffee :D

Take care!

Pat☺

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

Waiter responds "We serve anybody, have a seat" ;)

Lucky you, being able to pin down the cause and tackle it!

I've had buzzing and ringing in the ears 24/7 for the past 30 years like millions of other people and in our case it's called tinnitus, it's incurable so we just have to live with it and get used to it..:)

My dad too is one of those millions of people.

Wow, thanks for that. I Had no idea it existed. Just looked up tinnitus and that described my symptoms exactly. 'A loud noise that noone else can hear'. It's still not fully gone.

I was calling my doctor later today and deciding whether or not to up the dose a bit, but now I think I'll ask for a referral to a specialist. He said I could get one any time last we spoke, and I think the time has come.

I also saw aspirine can aggravate it in some cases, so I'm gonna stop taking that.

Thanks again.

And thanks all for the cheerful support.:)

Welcome to the club! Me, you, Scatterbrain and Captain Kirk all share in this! I've had mine since I was 13. Some foods affect it more than others. Don't believe the miracle pills on the druggist shelves that say "Stops ringing in the ears"...pure snake oil!

You can let it make you crazy or call it "Normal" and ignore it.

Called the doc, and he thought there was a good chance it could still clear up. In the next days perhaps even. So much so that he wouldn't refer me right away, and asked me to see him start of next week instead.

It's definitely still 'evolving' so I agree with that judgement.

Crazy to hear all of you have been affected by this. And for so long! I really had no idea.

I had no idea what the cause was. Kept looking for some external source and coming up empty. Not knowing almost drove me mad. Especially because it was combined with not getting enough sleep at all for three months straight. Almost every night sitting fully awake.

I read some more on this, come to think of it. I did hear of it before. As "Ringing Ears". But I see now I never really understood what that meant.

I thought the term described a brief, passing affair. A term for the whisling sound you sometimes hear when you have the sniffles. When the pressure in your sinusses is suddenly equilised. A brief Pfeeeeeeew or Shoooooosh. Or Peeeeeeeeeeep No more. Maybe lasting at most a minute.

Never in my life had I imagined that 30 years of this misery could be hiding behind those two small words.

Strength to you all!

I have tinnitus from too many rifle shots (by me). Those things are louder than one might think, and you simply do not wear plugs in certain situations.

Couple that with too much time on the flight line and down at hi-power, and one has ringing. Constantly. Not to mention going "huh??" a lot...

Glad yours is getting better! Hope it clears up completely. It's a pita sometimes, and my lovely wife gets mad at too many "Huh??"s.

Have fun!

Now that sounds familiar! Got mine at the La Puente Police gun range. A friend of mine and myself would go out there from time to time for .22 rifle target practice. Of course you had to go into the pistol range to buy targets and pay your fee. .357 and .44 magnums going off with no ear protection. Huh? Did you say something???:p

Or you could have a pair of .50 cal machine guns firing at 1,000+ rounds per minute each within a few feet of your head at least a couple of times per day for months at a time. Or maybe mortars and rockets exploding on the ground in your compound or next to where your plane is sitting. Or a reduction transmission spinning about two feet over your head for every minute you're flying. Ear protection?? Doesn't my helmet do that??

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.

Millions of folks, myself included, have tinnitus. Mine caused by working around jet engines for 20+ years.

And with that being said, I'm glad you've found the problem. And, since this is a flightsim forum, it's probably time to lock this one down.
