Aircraft not showing up in FS?

So I recently downloaded the paint kit for IFDG's Airbus A321 and made textures of the Air Transat livery for it. I tried to install it and it shows up as being there, but it just shows a blank plane with no livery what so ever

 

How do I solve this?

Double check in the aircraft.cfg file that you have the correct spellings on everything, I've had aircraft and the air file was spelt different to the actual file, check the texture name.

 

If you are not sure look in a working aircraft.cfg and see how it's done.

Paint kits are usually in PSD or similar layered format. When you create a BMP file from that, paint programs create it in 24 bit format. This format cannot be read by FS. You then need to load the texture in the FS folder into a program like DXTBmp and save these in a format like 888 32-bit.

 

Of course, these 888 textures must be in a properly named texture folder inside the plane's folder.

Hey guys sorry for the late reply, ive been busy past few weeks

 

tgibson_new - I did put the paint kit first on DXTBmp then sent it for editing for PaintNet (I've done with the FS default aircraft paint kits many times and I've made some good 737 liveries). I've done 24bit format quite a few times with these and it shows up for these ones, but not the IFDG one. If you dont mind me asking, do you reckon you could perhaps correct possible errors because I find the IFDG ones quite confusing

Well if it shows up but with a grey blank plane it must be the textures that are at fault.

 

Are you sure the paint kit is definitely for that model?

 

You could try adding another pre-done texture and if that shows look in the texture structure and see if it differs to yours, that might reveal a clue.

 

You've done paints before so you know to make sure the spelling is correct, just double check you never know, I still do it myself sometimes.

 

Other than that it might be the way you are saving the texture that is fouling it up.

It's a lot faster and much much more informative to do this kind of research using MCX. You can use it to open your plane.mdl file and then change liveries on it very very quickly. And you will get a running commentary which is very helpful in finding where the problem is.

Yes, the development release is much much more capable, but it has much more strict requirements. On my old RedFred laptop, it runs approximately 50 TIMES (yes, that much) slower than the latest stable release. Because my old laptop doesn't handle OpenGL very well at all.

Btw how do you solve a plane texture which is mirrored the opposite way in FS? It didnt happen with the default 777-300 before and it seems to have happened after I accidentally deleted some of the aircraft.cfg for the 777 and so I had to rewrite that all. I'd be grateful if anyone knows how to solve it

Your question is very unclear. AFAIK, the only relationship between a texture folder and the aircraft.cfg is that the "texture=" line in the cfg file specifies a particular folder for its repaint. The default 777-300 has "partial" mirroring, always has had. If you look at any of the MS supplied ones (Landmark, Orbit, Pacifica, Soar), or any others you have, you should be able to figure out which parts are mirrored and with ones are not. I'd be happy to help you, but I really don't understand what your issue is.
