Thread: Bush flying

    Default Bush flying

Bush flying is not limited to Alaska. It can be anywhere. Following is a link to about 500 images all over the world that shows what it is like to get away from the busy airports and enjoy what GA flying can be.

Larry, the first photo is the image I have of you and your Cub. ;-)

    Google.com/images does wonders.

Thatīs a nice colection. I particularly enjoyd the "100ītoo long" picture. Thatīs a nice spirit.

Here we also have a lot of bush stris, especially in the Amazon where there are some places where you can only go by plane or river.

Donīt want to hickjack your thread but just tought of putting some pics of one of our bush airstrips. This is Morro de São Paulo (it is actually not in the region I mentioned but in the Northeast). I flew there as a passenger in a Islander but they also use a Cesna 182 and a Baron. Unfortunately this one is private so it is not in FS

The runway (motice the white tires which provides the limits to the rwy).

Park a C-182 next to that hut and it would be paridise to me.
That airstrip has to be in your country. Remote airstrips in the US do not have distance markers like that.

Kind of fun to drop down, drag it and set up for a T&G just for the heck of it. Good practice getting into an unplanned airport if needed. All the information you will have is what you see. These strips can be from 700 foot on up and only 75 or so feet wide between the trees. Pull the fuel and try it dead stick some time. That is when it gets interesting. Thank goodness for reset.

Believe me beaches there are really a paradise. Actually MSP is not that far from civilization it is remote in the sense it is an island. there a much more remote airstrips in Brazil but I īdonīt have photos of then on my PC (and I donīt have a scanner).

    Glad you like it

Unfortunately my software won't recognize a .jpg picture when its extension is .html, so I saved the files on disk, changed the extension, and sure enough, they are nice .jpg pictures.

That's a pretty place, Sergio. Thanks for posting the pictures. That looks like it would be a good place to fly from.

Sergio sent me a suggested airport to try in sim that he had been into in real life. Sounded good so chose my favorate 737 with 20% fuel, short field procedures with no regard to second segment and got off fine and did a very lazy pattern for a very long downwind right into a long final. When lined up, the runway was completly in sight. Started trimming out and since Sergio had warned me of a hill on short final over the water, I took it back as slow as I could with about half flaps and gear down and with above normal power. What I did not understand was that on normal glide path, you would loose sight of the runway behind that hill. Still had power on and just after crossing the hill, dropped full flaps, spoilers, and added more power. Surprised me, but I landed just beyond the numbers and only used half the runway.

Moral of the story: don't always believe it when Sergio says a landing is a piece of cake. ;-) Thanks for that suggestion Serigo.

Suppose you are talking about my suggestion of SBRJ in Rio - Brazil.

Iīve never claimed that was a piece of cake. In fact its one of the worst ones I know. It should be even harder because in RL you turn base before you cross the mountain (the Sugar Loaf) because it is higher than depicted in the sim. I can only make a nice landing there 1 out of every ten times.

But I am glad you enjoyed.

    Larry

This is the place we are talking about. In RL the dowind for visual approach would be over land (from bottom right to upper left in the pic) turning base before the mountain and then turning final (both turns to the left). Pattern traffic height is 1500ī. Nobody can convince me that an stabilized approach.

Here is a link to some RL photos of it.
