I saw the Angels for the first time long ago, at Moffet Field, and they really made their mark on me. I even wound up working on Phantoms in the Corps. I used to ride over to El-Centro to watch them whenever I had a day off. The Angels liked them too. They were big, smokey, loud and powerful. Real croud pleasers. I always thought that if they absolutely HAD to get rid of the Phantoms, the F-14 was the real way to go. Big, powerful, loud...Another crowd pleaser. Although a friend of mine was kinda upset with Tomcats after one broke his glasses during a pass that may have been a hair faster than it maybe should have been during an airshow over in Norfolk... I guess the F/A-18 is a suitable substitute, anyway. It has the power (now), and can do things Phantoms just dreamed of...
