FD-FMC is a simplified FMC, with an unrealistic appearence, but a real flight management. Indeed, it offers real vertical navigation features.

Only for FSX+SP2 or P3D.

Many thanks to Project Airbus team that authorized me to use their fabulous Aircraft, and many thanks to all Project Aitbus forum members who help me to debug this panel.

Please, read the user manual provided with the Aircraft.

What is FD-FMC :

-----------------------

FD-FMC philosophy is that substance is more important than form.

FD-FMC is a FMC with a no realistic look, because I wanted it to be usable by beginners. This is the form

However, it manages aircraft flight dynamics like a real Airliner (other FMC freeware like VAS-FMC haven't vertical navigation; They are just GPS-like with a FMC look ). FD-FMC manages Vertical navigation .

This is the substance.

About horizontal navigation:

-----------------------------------

it works with the FSX GPS macro functions (thanks to Bob Mc Elrath, who documented all FSX GPS hidden XML functions).

SID, STAR and approaches are created by "FreenavDBgroup" members. Procedure are included in data files for each airports (130 airports realized today).

A free "AIRAC" file, updated weekly, add FSX missing navaidsi.

All is Free !

When an airport is in the Freenav database, you can add at your flight plan SID, STAR and aproach. You can save tyour flight, FD-FMC overwrite and update the FSX ".PLN" file.

You can also add or delete flight plan waypoints with the Gauge, and create your own SID/STAR when airport is not in the database.

- Freenav procedure includes altitude/speed constraint, holding patterns, ARC-DME.

About vertical navigation:

---------------------------------

This is the hidden part of the iceberg.

From take-off until landing, FD-FMC manages aircraft behavior.

You can select take-off thrust, climb thrust, speeds and the gauge manages climb and descent acording your setting, with a constant thrust, and a variable pitch, to hold speed, as real arircraft !

This part is 90% of the programming code (2 years of work only for this part !).

Gauge has ist own Autopilot and A/THR code.

FD-FMC setting are :

- Select Takeoff thrust (TOGA, FLEX with assuming temperature, according gross weight and cost index)

- Insert take off runway threshold in the flight plan to have a first segment in the axis

- Mode RWY (take off in the runway axis)

- Mode RWY TRK : take off by use ILS of the opposite runway in backcourse mode

- Throttles notches as real Airbus (CL, FLEX/MCT, TOGA)

- throttles stay active with A/THR (Except in SPEED/MACH mode)

- Select Thrust Reduction Altitude (THR RED) : 1200ft by default

- Select Acceleration altitude (THR ACC) : 1200ft by default

- SRS mode after take off (Airbus safety speed mode)

- Noise abatement procedure in SRS mode

- Manage spped or altitude constraint linked to a waypoint or speed constraint linked to an altitude during a SID

- Select Climb thrust/speed until 10000ft (mode ECON, EXPEDITE and N1, Green dot speed) according aircraft gross weight and cost index selected

- Select Climb thrust/speed from 10000ft to FLight level (mode ECON, EXPEDITE and N1) according aircraft gross weight and cost index selected

- select transition altitude ( 5000 to 18000ft)

- Select Cost index, (used for ECON thrust)

- Calculation of the optimal flight level, according gross weight, trip and cost index (real Airbus formula)

- It is possible to select a second flight level with weight threshold

- TOD calculation

Climb use THR CLB mode (N1 thrust); FMC controls aircraft pitch to hold speed with constant thrust !

- Select Crossover altitude (below IAS speed, above MACH speed, 29000ft by default)

- Real MACH mode (FMC calibrates permanantly IAS value versus MACH value : No overspeed possible; fix a biggest bug of FSX default autopilot)

- Managed climb (CLB) or slected climb (OP CLB)

- A/THR during descent is in THR IDLE mode, managed descent(DES) or selected (OP DES), with FMC pitch control.

- Manages holding pattern (even with front entrance) and ARC-DME, during STAR and approaches( with data included in airport database files)

- Display information page about procedure for departure et arrival airports

- You can select approach gradient en degrees

- Approaches ILS, LOC, RNAV

- Mode FPA (Flight Path Angle): You select on the FCU your gradient in degrees

- DH/DA/MDA

- Calculation of the approach speed (Vapp) , according flaps configuration, wind component, aircraft gross weight

- FCU as the AIRBUS FCU (except CRS knob). You can preselect a Speed/HDG/V/S value

As FD-FMC manage vertical navigation, Gauges must be adapted for each aircraft performances. So you cannot use this panel with another aircraft, that will not work.

When you can use a FMC for any aircraft, that's means that it hasn't vertical navigation management; It's just a GPS like, as VAS-FMC

But all A3xx family will be release.

Timeline :

- A318 will be available in 2 weeks

- A321 will be completed in december.

- A319 first quarter 2016

End of 2016 :

- A330

- A380

When A318 will be ready, panel will be updated; I am adding a new feature which allow to land with a localizer in back course mode (by using the ILS of the opposite runway, when this feature is available on the airport).

I will publish next week few airports, with KRDD - Redding which has this feature (Rwy 16 LOC back course approach).

So, check my website, Freenavdbgroup.com, to know when panel update will ba available (2 weeks maximum)

please, one more question...all works fine but i cannot klick the Approach site...No matter whether I try before the flight or during descend..Star is selected and there the procedure Ends :-/ I have tried it also with VFR and IFR...no difference. Can you help me to figure out??

Edit: ok, after hours of reading i get it :-)

Thanks Clutch Cargo.

Wolf45 :

Approach button is available only if you have loaded a STAR, and It is mandatory to load your approach before you reach the last waypoint of the STAR.

An appraoch is linked to the last waypoint of a STAR (this is the IAF, Iniital approach Fix).

So, while you havn't load a STAR, Approach button is disabled.

When you have a problem, you can also save your flight by name it "ICAO to ICAO". When you save your flight, FMC create a data save file, which is also a "Blackbox".

This file is located in the same folder than your flight plan files, and it has the same name as your flight plan file, with extension "....FMS dataSave.csv".

You can open this file with Notepad; POst here the content of this file and I will can tell where is your missing action.

All flight information are saved in this file.

Please note that this file is deleted when you land, so open file or do a copy before landing.

regards

Francois

Hello,

Some new and updated airports have been added to the database, for FD-FMC.

You can dowwnload them here : http://freenavdbgroup.com/?p=830

Think to download the new AIRAC file (version 10172015).

A FMC update coming soon. This update fix some minor bug and add the LOC back course Approach mode (used in some airports, like KRDD).

Check this thread to know when update will be available.

Francois

Good flight

  • 3 weeks later...
I installed carefully per instructions into my FSX-SE sim but the two aircraft that are part of the package are not available to be selected in the select aircraft window. They are simply not there in the list of airplanes that can be flown. I installed both into FSX/sim objects/aircraft. I would love to use your features but first I need to be able to select the aircraft. I tried to email you but my ISP keeps rejecting your email address. Please help. Thanks.

Only for FSX+SP2 or P3D. No mention of FSX-SE, or FSX+Acceleration.

Do you have all of your accouterments checked off so as to show all aircraft and variations?

I haven't FSX-SE, but I don't see a reason why aircraft would not work with FSX-SE.

Check Mrzippy sugest about aircraft list, and check If you have placed in the right folder :

"\SimObjects\Airplanes\" (not in \sim objects\aircraft\ which is invalid folder.

Works just as advertised here on Windows 10 and FSX-SE. I have added several repaints as well and as long as you follow the aircraft.cfg format for [fltsim0] they show up perfectly. A great freeware program for those wanting to learn FMC. Once mastered, the change to a realistic FMC input panel such as PMDG should be relatively easy.

Thanks theyorks for your feedback about Win 10 and FSX-SE !

For user who have downloaded aircraft, think to go on my website http://freenavdbgroup.com/ because new airports have been uploaded for the FMC (with a new AIRAC file).

And next week, there will be a panel update for the A320 and also, the A318 FD-FMC will be available.

Thanks

If it works in SE, as mentioned above by theyorks, then it works in Accel.

SE is Gold, with Accel, all together, so it works in SE, it works in Accel, see? Si :D

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

Looking forward to the new cockpit for the A320. It might solve the only problem I have, and that is the VC panel is black, making it almost impossible to read the labels for all the switches and dials. Loving the FMC. Doing a series of test flights to get up to speed with the functionality of this must have program.

To follow-up from my previous post, the aircraft have mysteriously appeared and both are selectable. That's the good news. however, In trying to work get this plane flying I found two issues that I can't figure out. After the engines are started according to the check list, when I click on the master caution button the light does not go out but the FMC is brought up. I have not been able to turn off the warning light at any time. Second, clicking on the A/P buttons does not do anything. I hear clicking sounds but I can't adjust selected altitude, V/S, speed, heading, etc. Maybe I'm not doing it right but I've tried using left and right mouse buttons and nothing seems to work. So that's the bad news. My main concern is getting the A/P working where I can set desired settings. Any help would be appreciated.

Something tells me that all of the A/P programming is done through the FMC. And I could be wrong about that!

Autopilot’s knobs (SPD, HDG and ALT) are Push-pull, and can be pushed or pulled, but they always return to their

central, neutral. To reproduce the operation real these rotary switches, handling the mouse was completely changed in

this version:version :

o Left click = Push (Managed mode)

o Right click = Pull (Selected mode )

o Wheel mouse = Value setting

Scrolling the mouse wheel works fine. Just point at the knob and scroll! Kill the Caution light by pressing the Master Warning light.
