Only if you overclock. I am running an I7 960 with a 20% OC at 3.8 Ghz and no problems. You may be able to get 4.0 Ghz from the 970.

CPU I7-960 @ 3.8 Ghz, Asetek Water Cooler

Asus P6T X58 MB, 6Gb RAM Corsair Dominator DDR3 1600Mhz

EVGA nVidia GTX 570, 1.28Gb DDR5 RAM

1 Tb SATA II HD, Kingston 128Gb SSD (FSX only)

Apevia 800W PS, Win 7 64-bit Acceleration

OrbxFTX Global BASE, OrbxFTX Global Vector, OrbxFTX open LCEurope, FS Genesis World Mesh, DX10 Fixer

How about i5 2500k

Newer chip and a little bit better than the 970. But you need to overclock it for

it to live up to it's potential, and make the switch halfway worth the trouble.

Clocked up to over 4 ghz, it's fairly decent even these days. And being a "k"

cpu, it should be fairly easy.

FSX is largely single thread, and a clocked up newer version i5 is no slouch for FSX.

The i5 4690k I think it is, "i5 devils canyon", clocked up can be quite stout for FSX.

Or should anyway, according to the specs..

I built my current computer using a i5-2500k clocked to 4.5 on air with a Coolermaster Hyper 212. It's been humming along for 3 years with no problems. Temps in the 50s
