Help with Nvidia drivers

I just downloaded some Nvidia drivers and it was exe. file so it seems that it self installed. I needed them for CFS3 everything is working although I am not sure if I like them better for FS2k2. Any way I read some instructions on Guru 3D were they talk about uninstalling your old drivers, selecting standard display types, ect. ect. restart computer then choose new drivers. So I am not sure if I need to do this or if the exe. file did this all ready? Any help would be appreciated :).

With Nvidia drivers, .zip files are easier to deal with then .exe.

Just remember the path that Windows says the Nvidiadriver.exe files were all extracted to during "installation" (usually something like c:/Nvidia).

Then right afterwards do yet another install and when you are supposed to browse to the path, enter the above path (such as C:\Nvidia), exactly like you were doing a driver.zip file.

www.guru3d.com has a full `how-to`, including excellent tips on cleaning the system of the previous drivers.

In essence you uninstall the old driver, purge the system of all previous Nvidia references, choose the Standard VGA (`ugly`) driver, reboot the computer then (and only then) click on the .exe to install the new driver.
There are good reasons for this, but you can always just click on the .exe and install the new over the old. You might be lucky.

hi simon, that what I did I just clicked on the exe. before I uninstalled the old driver. Things are working but should I redo it by choosing standard VGA ang then reinstalling the new Nvidia drivers?

Is the driver removal proceedure the same in 98se and XP ?

Is CFS3 worth the trouble ?

If it's working, leave it.
Just bear in mind you now have superfluous files in your Windows/System, Windows/System32 and Windows/System/Inf folders plus your Registry. The time may come when you need to purge these.

Thanks for your help Simon, but I am wondering if there is any advantage to going through the process of deleting the drivers and then when I install the Nvidia drivers again I point to the C:/Nvidia folder where they were installed. Or can you select standard VGA,restart, then select the Nvidia driver(from the device driver wizard) again and restart? I don't think the graphic quality is as good in FS2K2 as I use to have, now there is some flikering textures. So I don't know if I should just leave well enough alone.
