New dedicated PC build for flight sim

Recommended Posts

Hi all, this is my first post so be gentle haha.

So I'm a real life Commercial pilot student looking to build a flight sim to help keep my recency between flights.

I'm not a PC wiz but have done a lot of research on the topic. I have landed at a build that I think looks pretty descent. I would really appreciate your help on whether it's suits the purpose and is all compatible etc.

Here's what I'm wanting to achieve.

1. This is a dedicated flight sim PC only. Nothing else. I'll probably be using mainly FSX but may go to x-plane if I can work it out.

2. Budget isn't as important as a quality build that's going to last but I'd like to keep it under $3000 so probably no Tytan cards etc.

3. This will be built by Umart in Australia, not myself.

4. Whilst I won't initially OC I'd like to have the option in the future.

5. I want to run 3 x 27inch LED monitors.

Ok, so here is my component list:

CPU - Intel Core i7 4790K Quad Core LGA 1150 4.0GHz Unlocked - $499

GPU - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 G1 Gaming 4GB Video Card - $749

MOBO - Asus SABERTOOTH Z97 MARK1 - $345

RAM - Corsair 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 Vengeance Pro Black - $189

SSD - Kingston 120G HyperX SSD SATA 3 - $95

HDD - Western Digital Black 1 TB - $99

Power - CoolerMaster 1000W Silent Pro Platinum - $249

Cooling - Cooler Master Seidon 120V Plus CPU Water Cooler - $75

Optical - Asus DRW-24D3ST SATA 24X DVD-RW Black - $23

Case - CoolerMaster RC-942-KKN1 HAF X 942 Black - $225

OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64bit OEM - $189

Thanks in advance for your opinions / assistance.

Chris

Looks to me like pretty much state of the current art in computer hardware available to us mortals. Cannot make further recommendations except to suggest a full size tower case with plenty of fans. You can get quieter bearing fans for a few extra dollars.

Good luck - and let us know how it works out.
