Another Windows 10 warning.....

Can you say torrent server? Using your bandwidth? Microsoft's lack of privacy concerns never ceases to amaze me. See here for the latest: http://thenextweb.com/microsoft/2015/07/30/windows-10-steals-your-bandwidth-to-send-other-people-updates/ .

If someone with Windows 10 installed could check this and report back I'd appreciate it. Thanks....

I told everyone, Microsoft never gives anything away. Now they want to steal our bandwidth! Not to mention using our computers while we are already at the edge of capability while on FSX in the first place!

I also wonder how big a back door to our computers this feature provides hackers?

Also, check out this statement in the Privacy Policy:

“We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to […] protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services.”

Do you have any confidence at all in Microsoft's "good faith belief"? This is going too far.....

No Windows 10 for me.....

Best bet... just classify your main internet connection as metered. Prevents this and other update issues. But I have it set for local network. NO reason to download it again if my main PC already has the files.

That and make sure you hide the Nvidia updates :)

Luddites rejoice!

What I'm rejoicing about is you and others are going through all the new software glitches.

If Microsoft is operating at their normal standards, in two to three years and they might have a fairly bug free OS. And if that means I buy 10 rather than get it free, hey my time and headaches are worth more than the hassle of doing their debugging for them.

And I'm just saying a whole generation have grown up with BitTorrent and won't find this at all strange, or consider it an invasion of privacy.

And what exactly are we beta testing... I think we're still on version 6. Basically you are without all the features and fixes they didn't want to add to the previous version 6 :)

Which is entirely pointless. The installer can be downloaded and kept for whenever you want to upgrade to 10.

And Win7 worked great from day1, with zero issues for all my software and games. I bought it launch day and have had no problems with it since then, except the usual virus on occasion thats easily fixed.

Really all these rants against MS are unjustified and usually started by the uninformed.

The term Beta doesn't even exist anymore. We live in a world of Agile software. Even if you install it three years from now, there will be bits from features that will be brand new when you decide to install it. MS for the most part works in terms of sprints these days. 6-8 weeks of intense development then release. Then move on to the feedback they got during that 6-8 weeks of development, by planning the new 6-8 weeks.

You might say, well you can never get anything major done in 6-8 weeks. Well that's the old way of thinking. Turns out you can get even bigger things done when you have the community and the feedback loop, as you know where to put all your eggs.

The concept of beta as we know it existed when MS use to make software in secret and release it every 3 years. That's not what's happening with Windows 10 and that's why they call it "the last version of Windows". And certainly a true power user as you elude is someone who can troubleshoot and work around whatever bugs there are. Not wait indefinitely and pretend that's what a power user would do.

These posts never cease to amuse me! If anyone uses Siri on their Apple products, or Google, or Facebook, etc.. you are already sharing way more than you want to. Siri functions the same as Cortana, with all the info going to the Apple servers, Facebook shares everything with everybody and can continue to even if you delete your account. Granted it may not be right, but it is the way it is in todays technology. It just seems like some people like to complain. Anyone who ran the Windows 10 Preview release signed everything but their soul over to Microsoft when they clicked "I Agree".

So who is foolish enough to do any of that in the first place? Do you really need to be that connected 24/7? If so you need to GET A LIFE!!

Guys, take it down a notch (well, 5 notches), will ya?

I personally am not surprised at all with Microsoft "preserving your personal data" as this probably has been happening for quite some time now in light of all the mobile tech we've come across these days.

With this in mind, we should not be alarmed as I am pretty positive that Windows 10, nor Cortana, is Skynet. Siri is not Skynet. The chances of the big scary machine from Eagle Eye spying on every single thing you do is rather small.

This conversation reminds me of when I first started using Facebook back in 2008 and there was a chain mail from "Mark Zuckerbe" being circulated saying that anybody who didn't forward the message to 5 other FB friends would get their accounts deleted. And of course, people freaked out and my inbox was flooded.

For me, I will be holding off from Windows 10 for about a week or two as I observe other simmers' experience. The OP was an example of what I'm looking for; thanks for sharing the info. I've also been watching carefully on the P3D user forums and although some are reporting problems with W10, most of them give it a thumbs-up. Hopefully that will be my case as well when I make the move eventually.

So stop using Flightsim.com Google is monitoring every page, every thread you read!

And no... unlike you many of us have multiple connected devices and it's a heck of a lot easier using them all if Microsoft, Apple, or Google does keep our personal data on their servers. Cause god forbid if I type "fl" my browser on any computer should know to go to flightsim.com

Do you even have a smartphone?

You may not like the fact that MS is gathering personal data about users, but you need to realise MS has been doing that since the win95 days so what they are doing now is no different, nor is it different to what every other company does.

Torrents are nothing to worry to much about anymore, its not like the bad ole days when they were a hackers and pirated software hubs vehicle of choice.

You can not get away from data gathering its a part of living in the world of smart phones, computers and everyday technology that we use, GPS etc.

Exactly why I said, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I'm keeping Windows 7 64 Bit."

I also hear of problems trickling down with flight sim and some add-ons, so that's a big no to me since I have my system now working beautifully.
