Doing the mail in Papua Neuguinea

Recommended Posts

So you think you are a good and experienced Pilot, able to land

your aircraft wherever you want???? PAH! Try this orbx PNG-Scenery, including the airport of Port Moresby and ten HORRIFYING airstrips in the Mountains, along the "Kokoda-Track" a Footpath through the Wilderness of PNG, a challenge for backpacking tourists AND FOR PILOTS. You may be able to bring your plane down in one piece but it´s hard to get away from there again:

-Very short "runways", the surface deep and muddy grass

- Elevations of 5.000 ft ASL and more

-Trees and bushes around the strips

So you need a light but very powerful plane to operate there safely.

My Piper is not the best choice and is still standing at one of the strips, no chance to take off there again.

Okay, of causse i tried and lost all my hours d/t a crash!

I made these shots on a flight from Port Moresby to Kokoda, the

last "station" on the way. The only challenge on this flight is to climb with the Piper up to 8.000 ft.

Hope you like the shots.....

Thorsten

Have a nice Weekend!!!

Wow! Great scenery, lovely aircraft. That approach does look a triffle....tight? Difficult? Downright deadly??

And, what of the hostile cannibals, and head hunters? Not being able to get out again could lead to problems with them. Or folks like these:

:D :D :D

Thanks for a great post. I may give the flight a try in a Spartan. Nice bird for tight spots!

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!

I guess you learned your lesson, flying Jan's beer and cheese to these remote locations for him. :D I'll probably see you there some day knowing your stuck there forever. ;)

Great job with the pics Thorsten. :)

Thank you!

Pat: LOL....well i noticed that the tribe´s meal plan changed suddenly to a -for me- unknown sort of meat after my arrival.....

Kenny: Thank you, it´s 30cm hand placed landclass over there....

John: Thank you Sir! It´s appreciated!

Jim: Aaaah....go ahead talking like this to me!!!! :-)

Adam: No, no beer & cheers for Jan, but a lot of bills and several blue letters from the Aviation Authorities for him. As usual.

Thank you all a lot!!!!

 It's always the same: Pat was able to take pictures at the New Guinean location of the famous "von Peerhoven Flight- & Nose-Punching School" On the pics you see our graduates during class. During the nose punching classes we give them pictures of Adam to practise! PAH!

Edit: And I told them Adam tastes like chicken. They can't wait to meet him!
