AirEd is NOT a 'MS' program. It is a 3rd Party add on and for Windows, but that is it. It will not (ever) be updated by 'MS'. I know the readme say to intall to 'Aircraft' folder, but you can install anywhere, then drag the 'aired.exe' to your desktop, then choose 'Create Shortcut Here'. When you double click the shortcut icon, AirEd will open but will be minimized at upper left corner. Drag the sides of 'bar' to expand and you can then click 'File/Open' and browse (to 'Aircraft' folders) and then to the *.air file you want to open. Edit then 'SAVE' (it remembers WHICH *.air file you have open) and go reload the default aircraft and then the aircraft with the modified *.air file for it (edits) to take effect. Not too difficult. Here is info concerning aired.

''AirEd is the original configurable AIR file editor. For FS98, CFS and FS2k. This new

version (1.42) adds a couple of handy features for program startup, as well as an

FS2k specific data type and ini file entries. By William Roth.'' (1/30/2000).

PS: There is NO 'version 1.04.1'. There IS a version 1.42.1. Just so you know.

You are sure you aren't one?

Incidentally, the current version of AirEd from Herve Sors website is File Version 1.0.5.2 and Product Version 1.52, and Date Modified 13/06/2015 10:00. It still runs perfectly on windows 7 4-bit

gwillmot,

I am getting SICK AND TIRED of you posting AT ME and not AT THE OP SUBJECT MATTER and then getting personal, and insulting, by calling me 'Mr Mule'. Either you post an apology and QUIT the presonal insults or I am going to Nels to settle this. You do NOT have any reason to be insulting me. Or getting personal. Or not posting relevant to the subject and just use it to post AT ME. That in itself IS AGAINST THE RULES. What do you have to say now-sucker?

PS: I said an apology, but being as you are NOT a gentleman, but a cad and a bore, I doubt it will happen. No matter. I believe you need an attitute adjustment. All you do is annoy, insult, and belittle. That is not what the forums are for.

The FACT is I NEVER get 'personal' with anyone. Ever. I stick to the topic, and if I read the post and can't ADD anything, I go elsewhere. I don't GUESS, or provide pointless 'humor' to make me sound 'intelligent' and which is irrelevant to the topic of thread.

I share a good joke or pun once in a while but I don't make a point of doing NOTHING ELSE (like some people). Now you (StringBean - 'Top Gun'-'What Would Opa Do?') are coming in here just to criticize ME and in fact may be defending 'qwillmot'? What gives? No one was talking to YOU. And if I inform Nels of anything (or not) is not your business. So mind your own business and spare me the BS. It don't look good on you.

Well, you seem to be sensitive to a name you have given yourself. I apologize as I thought your were going by Napa - First Name and Mule - Second Name ..... hence Mr. Mule.

What do you prefer? Mr. N. Mule?

As for your comment that you "NEVER get 'personal' with anyone, Ever." .... let me quote from you on another topic, directed at the poster, still present on this page of the Forum - "You are 'stumped' because you never 'experienced' this, are GUESSING (not good) and want to simply add a count to your posts. I can see right thru you. Sorry, but that is how I 'see' it. Prove me wrong (yeah right)."

Hate to see it if you ever got personal ..... just say'n

He did 'miss the mark'. So he WAS guessing. I guess that is 'ok'? You can come in and talk garbage? I know some people (we know who they are) that jump at correcting ME but I never see them correct anyone else? How come? Either you KNOW the answer or you DON'T. There is no 'wiggle room' when it comes to FACTS as related to the flight sim. If it don't make sense then it don't make sense. And my NAME is Chuck Backus. The nickname is NapaMule. You can call me Mr Backus, although we both know you are just being sarcasstic (what else is new). So it's not getting personal to tell someone they shouldn't be guessing. This is not a chat room, or a joke forum. It's a technically oriented, problem solving, venue for Simmers to talk about Simming. Case closed.

Hi Napa,

I run my version of AirEd (1.0.4.2) on windows 7, but had to set the compatibility to windows 7. To check this, right click your mouse on the AirEd .exe file and bring up properties. Then open the compatibility tab. If the compatibility is not windows 7, try changing the compatibility mode.

Just a suggestion that may make it work.

Regards,

Algenon.

Algenon,

I don't have Windows 7. I have XP SP3. I don't have any problem using AirEd 142. It opens when I double click the shortcut icon on my desktop. And the *.air file opens when I dbl click the *.air file itself.

I 'BELIEVE' (disclaimer - as the rat patrol is around) Simmers that have Win 7 or 8 are having PERMISSION problems with it. Not compatability problems. But they don't realize that. So they hammer away at other things, to no avail.

They need to right click on *.air file, then choose 'Open With' and ck the 'Always Open With' radio, choose 'AirEd' from list. But, if they have Adobe Reader it may have 'grabbed' the 'air' extension so they need to uninstall that add on to Adobe Reader first. Then do the 'Open With' to give the 'air' extension back to AirEd.
