mgh
AVSIM frequently has problems. it's almost impossible log in between 0900 and 1000 in the UK.
mrzippy
I tried about 1/2 an hour ago. I always stay logged in, and it said the server was busy...try again in a few minutes. It's fine as of now! Still thinking about a new flightsim only computer!

jdwgraf
AVSIM frequently has problems. it's almost impossible log in between 0900 and 1000 in the UK. I asked why this was ( in the Netherlands had the same problem between 10 and 11 ) , the answer given by Tom Allensworth is that this is when they make the backups of their servers . As they are based in the US that would be the middle of the night for them . An minor issue for some but still leaves 23 hours a day . mgh
None of the other servers (flight simulator or others) never seem to have problems.
Luke
the answer given by Tom Allensworth is that this is when they make the backups of their servers . As they are based in the US that would be the middle of the night for them . An minor issue for some but still leaves 23 hours a day . 2005 called. They want their backup strategy back. :) The challenge that AVSIM has is that it's a site architecture that's over 15 years old. The age of large monolithic database servers is over, and when they had a conversation in their forums a few months back it was pretty obvious that they were having some serious database deadlocks and had over-provisioned certain areas of the site at the expense of others. Cheers! Luke
HillBillyJim
^^^^^^^^^This^^^^^^^^^^ Avsim still uses a very old web design, with servers which IMO can't handle as much traffic as modern sites. Thus, issues like this will still occur from time to time until a major overhaul occurs. http://vnorthwest.com/lib/signatures/NWA3004.png Great VA!
