Need help with fsx addon

I recently found this add-on for FSX. It allows you to have a tab on your screen so that when you click on it , it will open a cross-hair sort of say screen which allows you to set as a runway or whatever you want to call it to do a good landing. The zip folder is labeled as (MkPosXand9) I don't have a clue where I found this download and there is no instructions on how to or where to install. So the question is Where do you install this folder in FSX to make it work? I tried to upload the zip folder but I keep getting an error message and it won't let me insert a file or any part of it.

Hi

Please read the information in the following link carefully,

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?286946-Gauge-to-line-up-runway

It details how to install the Mark Position instrument.

Also please read the 4 pages that describe it's operation.

The included screenshots help to describe it as well.

Cheers

Karol

PS ;

With that instrument , there are two ways to conduct an Approach to a landing.

1. Use the ,

- hollow grey "Mk Hdg" arrow and Mk Hdg readout.

- Orange "BRG" arrow and BRG readout.

- when your GS readout reaches 3.00 degrees descend maintaining it at

3.00 degrees all the way to touchdown or your flare.

This method is shown in the ' Standard Rectangular Circuit' Screenshot.

This is the easier method.

or,

2. Enter 3.00 degrees into the "GS" button.

then use the ILS deviation bars just as you do with the usual ILS instruments.

If you keep the white deviation bars exactly over the green crosshairs you

will be precisely following the 3.00 degree glideslope all the way down to touchdown.

With this method , as is usual with the ILS it helps considerably if you stabilise your aircraft by at least 7 nm to go before landing.

It really helps if you get the ILS bars centered and the aircraft "Trimmed" ,

keep them centered with smooth and gentle corrections.

Note that as you get very close to touchdown the ILS becomes extremely sensative ,

that's usual for an ILS , it's because you are getting into the pointy end of your ILS approach cone.

It does take practice to get the feel for a precision ILS approach , be patient with yourself.

Use the instructions listed in option number 2 until you are using ILS correctly. Then you probably won't need that add on at all.

As stated, practice is the real key. I'd suggest using the same approach to the same airport over and over again under different lighting and weather conditions. (Do Touch and Goes.) When you have it pretty well nailed, then try other airports.

Being an old chopper guy I usually fly low and slow.

Regards the following "panel cfg" entry.

[WindowXX]

gaugeXX=MARK!MK_icon, 2,420,11,11 //----Icon switch---

Did you add that line to the 2D panel that you use ?

If you did and you still cannot see the Icon , then it might be hidden behind your panel .

Change the above line as follows :-

gaugeXX=MARK!MK_icon, 2,80,11,11

the change from 420 to 80 moves the Icon higher on your screen.

I have Emailed you the panel cfg with the Mark Position entries in it.

It does work in the Cessna.

I made several attempts to add the Icon into both the 2D and VC but for some strange reason the Icons refused to show up.

You will need to Use the keyboard "SHIFT and NUMBER" to call up the Instrument window.

This instrument should work in any aircraft ,

however it would be very unwise to attempt to install it in really complex ones.

In my opinion those advanced complex aircraft are best left as they were purchased.

Will this get your turnips twisted in the right direction?

Mark position.JPG

PM me if you want the info to make this happen. It involves changing the the INS_MARK.bmp to the correct name and then the proper changes to the panel.cfg to make the Icon appear where it does.

Thanks Mr Zippy

The Icon title is incorrect , my apologies to anyone using this instrument.

To fix the Icon title do the following :-

1. highlight and RIGHT click and copy the following,

MK_Icon

2. Open the "MARK" folder that you have.

3. left click on INS_Icon.

4. in the top blue bar , to the left you will see the word Organize , click on that.

a drop down dialogue box will appear.

click on Rename.

5. The INS_Icon will now have turned blue,

RIGHT click on that blue area and paste.

6.The Icon will now read correctly as MK_Icon .

7. you can exit the Mark folder , the Icon should now be visible in your panel .

Once again my apologies for any inconvenience that I might have caused.

Cheers

Hi Karol, I installed your file that you e-mailed me and it works using Shift + 7. I changed the MK_Icon in the Mark folder and that did not work. There is no MK Icon visible in the panel of the Cessna 172. there is a ILS button, but that gets me nothing. I checked it more than once and everything looks good as you say in the above post, but no Icon?.

Will shift+7 work in other aircraft? Thank You

Hi hpwells1

The Icon works in my Cessna.

Did you install the latest panel cfg that I sent in my last Email ?

If you still have problems , just Email me and I will send a Zip with the corrected Icon.

To add a new instrument , create a new Window as follows ;

Regards Shift and 7 ,

The 7 relates to the number of "Windows" in the particular aircraft.

Have a careful look at the panel cfg you will see that the Windows are numbered sequentially as follows,

[Window00] , [Window01] , [Window02] , [Window03] , ....... etc.

the last one might be ,

[Window05]

now if you add an instrument such as this one , you will see in the instructions to add it as ,

[WindowXX]

what that means is replace XX with next number 06 so you will have ,

[Window05]

[Window06]

in your panel cfg in the above example ,

so ,

[Window06] will be your MARK POSITION instrument section that was included in the installation instructions.

To add the Icon , add it at the end of the 2D panel , at the end of the instrument list,

it's XX will be the next higher sequential number as usual.

This [WindowXX] is a common convention used for addon instrument instructions.

Please go to Post #8 at the following link ,

https://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?286946-Gauge-to-line-up-runway

and study that ,

understanding the principles involved will greatly help with any future installations of addon instruments.

I do understand that it can be difficult initially , but after doing it several times it becomes a little easier.

Always take care and be precise , I would hate to tell you the number of times that I have made the tiniest mistake while creating instruments and as a result the instrument either did not show up or did not work as was expected to.

Cheers

Karol

COBS,

I have discovered that adding the Mark ICON to the 2D panel as you have shown by adding a [Window.xx] does not work.

I found that by adding it as a gauge to the Main Panel [Window.00] and the 2 other [Windows] that pertain to the 2D main panel is the only way to get the Mark_Icon to show and work.

Hi Mr Zippy

Sorry , I should have made it clearer that I meant a new window for the Instrument,

and ,

add the Icon entry to the end of the 2D panel listing .

I will try to edit this thread and the other to make it a little clearer.

Cheers

Karol

EDIT; both threads have now been modified to make aspects clearer.
