Disk read error when re-installing FS9, What to do?

I tried to install my FS9 to a new computer, but unfortunately couldn't get beyond Disk 3 when a read error stopped me in my tracks. I've had the disks since 2004 and despite trying to take great care of them they do suffer from scratches, etc, over the course of the years.

I have tried everything to get the installer to read the file, but no such luck. Can't even bare the thought of giving up FS9.

So, short of going out and hunting down a new set of Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 A Century of Flight disks, is there anything else I can possibly do to get this install completed?

But if you ever used the 'no cd' mod you may have caused FS9 to 'trash' your install discs by writing to them a line that will generate an error and do nothing more. So it might not be the 'scratches'.

There isn't a program in the entire world that will write anything to your FS CDs, if the CDs are in their envelopes or in the drive. Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. The CDs are not RW discs and cannot have anything written to them.

Heck, I use the "Nameless Mod" and still use the same discs I had back in '04. I even go so far as using the little bit of software to make the EXE a 64 bit (ok, ok, it's not but it can use RAM like a 64 bit software). What a huge difference that makes! For me, on my system, please note, and a fairly old Dell system type laptop it is too.

I've never had it even try to write to my discs. I still use them about once every 18 months, on average, when I do something irreversable to the game and I can't utilize it at all any more.

But hey, learn something new every day, as the saying goes. I'll make the original discs master discs and only use them to make other discs in the future to ensure my originals remain pristine. That way, if something happens to my "install" disc, I can make a new one. Seems to me a reasonable solution.

Had a thought...then there was the smell of something burning, and sparks, and then a big fire, and then the lights went out! I guess I better not do that again!
