Default AI AIRCRAFT BLUES...

This has probably been covered before, but is there a "simple" way to add different textures to the AI Aircraft? For instance, change all of them to Real Airlines instead of the default fictional ones. If I download an aircaft, can I make it into an AI aircraft as well?
I've downloaded AI Tools, and Decompiler, but to be honest these are a bit confusing. Is using these tools the only way? Thanks for any help!

Hey Marc,

Welcome to the forum!

What you want is certainly possible, but it might pay of even more to take a look at Project AI's site (http://www.projectai.com). Not only have they tons of realworld airline liveries, but also very frame rate friendly aircraft to use them for.

Note that using downloaded aircraft often eat up unnecessary framerates, as they render little details that are not important on AI aircraft. ProjectAI has simplified (but good looking!) aircraft in a lot of realworld liveries. Give it a try, I think you'll be hooked. :-)

3. Default RE: AI AIRCRAFT BLUES...

Welcome to the forum Marc...

The default "AI engine" in FS2002 uses ONLY what is contained in Fltsim 0 / Fltsim 1 / and Fltsim 2 in the aircraft config file for each type of plane used for AI Traffic.

As for the commercial jets go, you can download the textures you want and place those textures in positions "zero..one..and two" in your aircraft config file and then have only "Real World Airlines" showing up as AI traffic. These changes in the config file can be made with "notepad" easily. Note: You only have to adjust the sections located ABOVE the "General" < in brackets portion of the file.

Here is a copy of my 737 aircraft config file you can use as an example. Repeat the process for your 777's and 747's and while you will still have the fictional airlines available you won't see them as AI traffic.

Give me a shout if you have any problems and again welcome...

Default RE: AI AIRCRAFT BLUES...

Wow! Thanx for all the help!
It's funny, but last night before I turned in, I thought about the technique you described and did just that. Except I deleted the default textures and lines of text and plugged in my own as above. Well, now nothing shows up. I know what the problem is, the fact that I shouldn't have deleted them, but replaced them as explained above. Back the drawing board, but I'm on the right track.
Thanks again!

I highly recommend you look at www.projectai.com.

They're packages auto install so it's no sweat to install them and you get some awesome AI traffic.

I have had no problems at all with their stuff.

6. Default Is Project AI installation really that easy?

Working two jobs while trying to keep pace with my kids' escalating tuitions, I have very little free time and consequently have devoted no time at all to creating a more realistic air traffic situation. From what I've gathered from comments I've read here previously, I've been under the impression that - what with Traffic Tools, AFCAD, Project AI decompiling, etc... - installing traffic and gates needed for them was a more complicated affair than what you suggest.

I presently have hardly any AI traffic in spite of the slider being set at 100% (1 ghz Intel cpu, 512 sdram, Radeon 7200 64mg graphic card). I would be interested in addressing this situation if it was as simple as you make it sound.

Is that all there is to it - auto install Project AI files?

Thanks,

Robert

LAST EDITED ON Oct-09-02 AT 05:11PM (EDT)[p]Yup, that's all there is to it.

First (important!) install the base installer. Next you can add as many of the available liveries as you want. Flightplans for that airline will be automatically added to your traffic.bgl, so no hassle there.

Hardly any traffic at 100%? Trust me, if you have installed all liveries, there's more traffic than you can handle... :-). A few days ago I was actually in line behind 7 other aircraft. Boring, but the sight was awesome.

EDIT: please note that PAI will not add extra gates to airports. Just the flight to and from them.

Definitely go to www.projectai.com as suggested. I've got three kids and a busy work schedule, so I don't have time to edit my own flightplans, aircraft textures either. Geez, that sounded like a commercial. :7 Project AI kicks butt! You will definitely have more traffic than you know what to do with. :-lol Install all the auto-installers, then try getting in line for landing at KATL (Atlanta). What a blast!!

10. Default RE: Is Project AI installation really that easy?

Thanks, gentlemen. I'll have to pay a visit to Project AI. I appreciate your input.

Will there be much more traffic even without the addition of more gates? I thought there was a direct correlation.

Thanks,

Robert
