Buying http://www.fl410computers.com/ computer/Monitors or TVs?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

Dave in Iowa here; I have been flight simming for a decade now.

I am making the next big leap; buying a purpose built dedicated rig for FSX.

I last did this 5 years ago with an off the shelf Dell. Compared to what I had prior, it was heaven.

It is time to go to war power.

I saw the advert for http://www.fl410computers.com/ here on flightsim and looked into it.

I have a computer IT guy at work that was going to assist me to build one.

Long story short; fl410 offers a top of the line for less than I can build one.

I'm going with the Intel High End system for $1500

Shot them an email and have been pleased with their communications via Tyler.

Explaining my wish list, he has suggested bumping up the ram on the rig and also suggested I use a TV vs monitors.

I hooked up my current computer to my Vizeo 32 incher for the first time and was amazed!

As I understand it the video card of the Intel High End has support for 4 monitors.

What I want is three monitors for my VC view, BUT I do not want them ala Matrox all one window.

I recently watched a youtube video of a guys rig via the forum and loved his set up.

He did use the Matrox THG however he opened a VC window per monitor so each window was independant.

My question is does the Matrox THG save/gain you anything vs running three independant VC windows without it because you can?

Secondly; I have not found any flat screen TV below 32" that is 1080p.

Triple 32s are not a bad option as room constraint is not an issue; I will be building a platform to hold this new rig.

Sitting 'within' the screens is a very attractive thought.

So, TV vs Monitor?

I am leaning TV; roughly $600 to sit within, whew...no problem!

In closing;

What do you guys think of the fl410 offerings?

Any of you have compelling arguments the AMD systems fl410 has are better for the price?

TVs vs Monitors?

This is going to happen I hope around Christmas and I will learn and tweak and learn; (It's half the fun, right?)

But I never ignore the wisdom of those in the community.

In fact, I love the fact most put in their signature; their rig's specs.

I used that extensively when researching 'the build', Thanks!

Finally, war power is not just a euphemism; I love the DC-6 and fly it almost exclusively.

Been flying the CalClassics gang's stuff for years and recently added JustFlight to the hanger.

The Three is my second fave. After this rig is mine, I probably will finally buy the MaamSim DC-3.

Thanks again for all that you do and what you can teach!

I know zilch about techy stuff and only know how to waggle a joystick around, so I've been running to Bleeping Computer advice forum over the years, they're very good and you might like to ask there to supplement the replies you get from the hotshots at FlightSim-

Specific subforum- http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/171/questions-and-advice-for-buying-a-new-computer/

Thanks, duh, I 'looked' for that last night but did not see so I posted under FSX general.

Is there a way to transfer this over? Or should I just copy it over to that forum?

Thanks again.
