I hope I'm not cheating

I have a DSL modem, which of course allows me to download at high speed. I like Flightsim.com's file searches much better than AVSIM's, but that causes a slight problem. Flightsim.com is VERY slow to download, while AVSIM is very fast. What takes about 5 full minutes, or more, to download from Flightsim.com takes only a few seconds on AVSIM, with a DSL modem.

What I have been doing, and it really helps a lot, is to go into Flightsim.com and search for whatever I am looking for. If I find anything, I then open a second window and go into AVSIM and do the download from there, if AVSIM has it. In other words, I'm in both at the same time.

Doing things this way saves me loads of download time. I just hope I'm passing along a tip and not somehow cheating by doing it this way.

on flightsim.com there is a limit of people that can be in there at once. avsim there can be as many as you want. so on flightsim the download files will take longer because it is a busier. And no u are not cheating.

I wouldn't call it cheating at all...You are giving Nels hits on the adds and not costing him any bandwidth at the same time. I'd say you are doing him a favour if nothing else. Plus, since you aren't using a node, that means others have a better chance of getting on. Sounds to me like it's a win-win situation for everyone.

If you want to increase the download speed from flightsim.com one way is to purchase a First Class Membership. I think it's around $30 for a one year membership. Flightsim only alows a certain number of free nodes, and limits the download speed. I mainly got mine so I don't have to sit at the login prompt pressing the refresh button for 20 minutes to get in. I usually get about 90Kbps over the DSL Line I have at home and over the T1 line at school. That means about 25 seconds for a 1Meg file.

However, the slow download may also be caused by a slow connection that you have to go though to reach flightsim depending on hour ISP and where your located. There is really no way to tell this, except to try downloading something from a friends computer who has a DSL or even at a library if they havn't disabled file downloads. You can ten compare your download speed to those at your house.
