Default To Buy Or Not To Buy???

    Hi!
Ive always liek flight sims, and recently I saw Screenshots Of FS2002, and I was impressed with the graphics. I am considering buying it , but was wondering, can you fly it for fun?!, as some topics on various message boards seem like you need to know how to fly a real plane to play it! I don't mind learning, so is there lessons with the game?
And, What will the performance of the game be like on an AMD Athlon 1800+ xp, running XP home, with an S£ Pro Savage Graphics Card?
Also, Is This A Good Deal? You get FS2002 Pro, with a Sidewinder Force Feedback Pro For £124 (Joystick Normally retails at £90)

    Thanks for any answers
    Richard

The truth is that it is so realistic that many real world pilots spend much of their free time using it.

However there are lessons in the package to help newcommers! Many of us have been using flightsim for many years and will confess its never been so good.

Go tomorrow and pick up a copy, you'll never look back.

I've been simming since FS4, and I'm so happy with FS2k2,
I don't care if they don't make another version..well, of
course I do, but I'm quite happy with FS2k2.

Once you start, I'm sure you'll want to learn all that it
    has to offer.

FAAAOZ, (there's no way I'm writing that one out :-lol )

FS2002 was my first sim and I had no problems... well, maybe a few, but I was/am computerly challenged and was trying to fly with the keyboard.

After buying a joystick, taking a few of the included lessons, and asking a load of annoying questions of many of the fine, knowledgable folk on this forum, I think I finally have the hang of it.... And it's been fun the whole way.

If you can afford it, do it.

I've be simming since 1987--FS3 or 4---can't remember now, and have to say that to me FS2002 is the biggest leap forward I ever saw. Just tonight while flying over southern Arizona, I had to say "wow" at the scenery. We used to fly over big green polygons of green with maybe a road or two thrown in, now the landscape is ever changing. With a few of the add-ons available out their it becomes even better!

Try www.dabs.com I got my fs2002pro and Joystick from them great delivery and a better price by about 25 quid. Ive done some flight training before so Im working my way through the lessons just to learn the controls but the flight skills seem fairly easy to pick up.

    Hi,

FS2002 is an accessible thing to anyone with a minimal capacity of learn.

If you are sitting down on front of a real aircraft cockpit, you have an advantage: you don't need to know about PC's, USB, graphic cards, Windows... :-lol But you already have a PC, these issues are your everyday occurrence, right? :-)

I have a SideWinder Force Feedback 2, and it runs like a charm.

No idea about your graphic card (i have a Matrox), but the rest of your specs are right for FS2002, in general terms. You don't specified you RAM amount, and this is an important matter. IMO, 256 MB is the minimum for FS2002, and 512 is the ideal.

Hope this helps, and sorry for my crappy english.

    Joan,

You may stop apologizing for your English, you know... ;-)

It's as good, if not better as the average English on this forum... :-)

I started flightsimming in February, knew nothing about flying an aircraft before, and I am doing fine! Although some time will be needed in learning a few things first. But I definitely don't know how to fly a real plane, I don't think I am even flying any FS plane fully properly, and I still have fun with it!

There's only one thing: You can't think of it as a cool adrenalin rushing game that has a lot of action in it. That's more like the Combat Flight Simulator Series. Of course, I'm not saying no adrenalin will be present in your body (Ever tried landing a 747 in Meigs).

What I am saying is that you cannot compare it with any other type of game, as it it a genre of its own.

But once you get into it, if you love it, you will love it forever, if you don't, you will forever find it boring.

Just make sure you have the correct hardware (Joystick, maybe peddals or Throttle) to enjoy it as much as possible. Judging from your PC, you should be fine, although what does worry me is your Graphics Card and RAM (512 IS better), but you will survive. The deal of the MS SW FF and FS2002 does sound good for me, although I got a Logitech Force 3D for $60 (That was 1.5 years ago) and FS2002 Pro for $30 (Still can't believe it!)

Whatever you do, I would highly recommend FS2002.

Don't call me weird, call me spongey.
