In the latest copy of “Plane & Pilot” there was an article on aviation’s urban legends and so I thought I would share one.

“Another legend centers around the FAA firing dead chickens into airplane windshields to test the strength of the glass relative to bird strikes. According to the tale, British engineers also concocted a chicken “cannon, except their bird carcass not only went through the windshield, but continued all the way through the aircraft and embedded itself in the laboratory. When the British contacted the FAA for help, they were simply told,
“next time, use a thawed chicken.”

Any one else have an aviation urban legend?
