I was lucky enough to attend the air racing at Reno/Stead a couple of weeks ago with my son, well worth the visit, I say no more , go to www.pylon1.com for details.
So, now I start looking around for Fsim versions of this great event, downloaded the XAR demo and was frankly dissapointed, searched the libraries for more and came up with the excellent selection of P51 Mustangs from Roger Dial (Flight One Software), Steve Small (FSD), and Mike Hambly (Blue Arrow FS), these are great fun and look terrific. But nothing else, no Sea Furys, or anything else that I could find.
I know enough about scenery design to cobble togther the pylons and I figured out where they should go from information at the pylon1 site. (The trick is seeing the pylons, I cheated a bit and put landing lights on them!)
I have managed a lap at 300mph+, the challenge to make 6 laps at an average of 500mph+ - I don't think this is possible???
Now this starts me thinking about all those "tweaks" that can be made to the various aircraft, - I suppose in theory you could have a Mustang that went at 800mph - but could you get it round the corners?
Just thought this might be a challenge and open up a new avenue for those who might be interested.
Geoff
