haha, well in real life on a GA plane, you're lucky if the landing light works at all... But in flight sim its like turning on a triangle of sun.

Okay, maybe we are on to something here....Is there a way of adding the cockpit view onto the virtual view if there is no virtual cockpit?
No, as the VC is part of the model (.mdl) file.
The designer must include it with the exterior model.

Wash out can be adjusted with your display card's gamma settings (contrast and linearity). You also need to be sure your monitor is not set too high to wash out highlights.
They are bright but can be distinguished.
One aircraft (GA) that works nicely is Warren Baier's Arrow III done in G-MAX. Be sure you also get the patch file. File name is arrow_3.zip.
It is a feature of GMax. If the lights are in the exterior model, and cloned for the VC part of the model, you will see them from the 3D and 2D modes.
Here are examples of external, cockpit2D forward, cockpit2D left front and cockpit3D left rear of the Dash 7.

:-wave Okay, For some reason, my landing lights only show up in Virtual Cockpit Mode. No matter what plane, default or otherwise, the landing lights only show up in virtual mode NOT cockpit mode. My question is, what might have caused this to happen? How can I fix it back to the way it was? I know a re-install would correct it but I HATE doing that. It is kind of a last resort for me. Thanks in advance!
I have no clue since I haven't had it happen to me, but ...
I'm curious if you have changed panels out of your default aircraft;
or changed your video card settings;
or changed anything in fs2002.cfg;
or have your zoom set too high or too strong (like 2.0) on your external 2D views and looking past the lights;
I have looked around and can really find nothing that I think would do this.
Before you do a reinstall, try renaming your fs2002.cfg and allow the sim to regenerate it. Then see if you have get them back.
