Subjective opinion:
`Best` performance and image quality, `money-no-object, gotta have the best and impress the neighbours, for at least the next three months until the NV30 kick its derriere` - Radeon 9700
`Best` performance and overall value, and "...my word! you can overclock it to Ti4600 levels easy!" - GF4 Ti4200
However, a good GF3 card will also offer superlative performance and value.

Just backing up Simon's statement. I'd go GF4 Ti4200 128 MB just based on the value and the easy overclocking potential with a utility from nVidia that allows you to tweak the card (including o/c). Unless you've got money to blow, it would be crazy to buy a Ti4600 for twice the price of a Ti4200 that can be o/c to Ti4600 speeds without problems in most cases.

Well, even the Radeons have te\waeking utilities. I am wondering why you are not satisfied with the Radeon8500 LE. It should run pretty fast. I also support the fact that the GF4 Ti4200 have the best price-performance ratio, but if you want the fastest of the fastest, then get the Radeon 9700.
Don't call me weird, call me spongey.
You didn't tell us what the rest of your system specs are?? I don't think you'll get any more mileage out of a Ti4200 than what you're seeing with your 8500. List your specs please!
If you can get the 9700 to work in the first place. I know that is was just most likely to be my system, but I ate the 15% restocking fee and sent my 9700 back.
I'm ordering the GF4 T14200 128 tonight.
