Default Online Flying, WOW

Well folks I thought it was about time I tried the online flying thing and what an experience. I won't deny I was very nervous but the controllers were nothing short of very friendly and helpful. My flight was from London Gatwick to Palma de mallorca and it went very well.

If you have not tried this then I suggest you do so it is a real buzz lineing up behind other traffic awaiting clearence. It is as real as it gets and I dont think I will go back to flying without it again.

I think I will invest in a headset to make it all the more real.

My advice just do it and you won't regret it.

    James

I only have dial up too and did not know how to go about it but I spent all afternoon yesterday setting it up. And it is easy when you know how. It does work on a dial up with vatsim.

Got www.vatsim.net and all the info is there.

Hope to see you in the skies soon Mark.

    Regards

Dial up is fine but you may have a problem if you have a 2 hour cut off. Some ISPs disconnect you after 2 hours and then you have to reconnect. If this is the case with yours, you will have problems because it takes a while just to get going. If you dont have this problem then a dial up is fine. I have used it previously and it works well.

LAST EDITED ON Sep-08-02 AT 07:56PM (EDT)[p]I've never even thought about it. However, I never even thought about Real World Weather until I found out how cool it was. How do you begin to go about doing it?

    Thanks

If you really want to test the ATC's radio phraseology skills just make a VFR flight with your favourite single prop FTN converter driven aircraft. ;-)

Of course it's possible with VATSIM and of course it's great fun especially when flying in "eyecandy" areas but it's slightly different from IFR communication and only a minority of ATC is capable of those special phrases (at least in Europe that is).

    Have a look at http://data.satita.net/stats/list1.html?id=811019

Every callsign beginning with D-E, D-F, D-G or D-B was a GA flight.

    Regards,

    Michael.

The best guide I have found is here

    www.hawarden.org.uk

This was very usefull for me and had all the necessary downloads in a walk through to get you set up. When I had found this site I was up and running in an hour.

The way I see it is the more there is the more realistic it gets so join in. If your nervous dont worry i'm only on my 3rd flight so so am I.

Good luck and keep trying its worth it.

    Regards
