Default FSX - Best addon payware!

Your question is so broad it's impossible to answer.
'Best' for one isn't 'best' or another.

What are you focusing on? Realism? Graphics? Attention to detail? Frame rate friendly? Cost effectiveness?

Megascenery is nice... but if you want the entire USA, it's expensive... but I use Sim Savvy (no longer in business). Sim Savvy covers the entire US and is/was $300 and it came with a 3 teribyte HD (WD HD). I'm happy with it. I understand that Larry (maker of Sim Savvy) is working with another company now to create US scenery, but it's not completed yet.

    Correct me iff'n I'm wrong.

but as they said, it all depends on what you are looking for.

Other stuff I can't live without?

A good set of pedals and a throttle quadrant.

Correct. This question is way too vague. You're gonna want to do some homework. Google various scenery and planes, and judge for yourself.

For example--- megascenery was mentioned. Some may love the real thing, others may not care for the "flatness" of it. (Absence of auto gen).

In my opinion, you can't get more real than A2A. They will be releasing a Cessna 172 and a Piper Commanche.
Attention to detail? Every switch, knob and lever does something and each has it's own sound recorded from the actual plane.
When you drop the gear or flaps, you can feel and hear the drag it causes.
Their planes require a starting procedure that must be done by the checklist, if you miss one step, it doesn't start.
A2A has spoiled me, nothing else comes close.

Very true! No auto-gen scencery with Megascenery. However, at altitude, the scenery's fine. At lower altitudes, it's not as good as having the auto-gen scenery. But the FPS are great.

Right. If you are planning to fly tubeliners at 30,000ft then maybe (but why do you need scenery then?). I you fly props, low and slow, ORBx beats them all. UK2000 is also very good and works with ORBx FTX-England well. France VFR is also good but expensive.
