FSX Gaming PC ..... Still low fps

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help me with a problem I'm having with my new computer I got for christmas that was purchased just for fsx. I expected excellent frame rates, even more than I got in fs9 when I flew on that sim (40fps avg.), but I am getting no more than 10 on average.

Anyways, I'll provide my specs and hopefully someone could provide some expertise into what to do. (Also, before anyone suggests it - I've installed the Venetubo fps boost and got about 5+ fps.)

Your video card is a $55 dollar card and is a poor choice for FSX or any gaming for that matter:

How would a NVidia 8800GT do? I still have it left over from the swap from my old machine.

I have to agree with Jim. The GT 520 is more suited to a word processor/browser.
A GTX 550 Ti or HD 7750 will be pretty good, on a budget. GTX 560 Ti or HD 7850 will be better, if the price is not a major detractor.
The nVidia offerings historically look better in FSX, but, your wallet may help decide.

FSX hardware demands are not comparable with FS9 either. Not by a long shot.

FSX is so demanding, that a rig that is capable of marginally maxing out everything on FS9 getting 25-30FPS, will be lucky to get 20FPS with med/high settings in FSX. How do I know? That perfectly describes my old computer!

My purpose built new rig does do extremely well, but, still nowhere near max. A bummer after putting $50/month aside for almost 6 years!
I don't expect a computer that can max FSX out, and get 30FPS everywhere, to be generally available for a few years yet...Don

My old rig has an AMD X2 6000 dually @ 3.1GHz, 2GB DDR2-800, and an AGP(x8) HD 4670. Max FS9, med/high FSX.
Some software do not report the CPU speed correctly for newer CPUs.
CPUz(CPUID) will monitor CPU speed(among other specs), and provide actual real time Vcore, important if you overclock.

Be aware that, for FSX performance AMD's CPU I/O architecture lags that of Intel, clock for clock, by a pretty good margin.
I'm an old AMD fanboy, so, the dismal performance of Bulldozer, and AMD's later CPUs in general, is a great disappointment.

Your "old" 8800GT will still be a little better than the GT 520.
Spending $100-$125 on a GTX550 Ti, or HD 7750, would yield much better performance than the 8800GT can provide.

If you swap cards:
Follow noell's Video Card Driver Installation Guide.
Clear the Shader Cache.
Rename fsx.cfg, and let the sim create a new one to set the correct Display Device.
Re-do the Jesus Altuve Auto-Tweaker ...Don
