  1. Default Off Topic - Please help with the following problem!!!!!!!!!!!!

When saving pictures from browser, (ie6), the save window pops up but only gives me the option to save as a bmp NOT jpg! This is odd because thepicture is a jpg anyway. Is there a setting I can change?

    Thanks

You don't say which OS you are using.
I have IE6 and Windows XP. With XP you are offered a choice to save as JPEG or BMP. Sorry, but that's the best I can offer.

Nah, I use Windows XP and once in a while (maybe 20% of the time) I can only save a JPEG image as a bitmap. If that happens I directly save the URL of the JPEG image instead of right-clicking it.

It suggests you save the image in the same format that it is published on the web.

So, just save it as it suggests, then you can switch to any format you want for editing it. An RGB, 8bit/pixel will probably be what you want.

Different graphics formats mainly have to do with the quality of the image you want to end up with.

If all you want is post the image on the web, choose either jpg with minimal quality, or gif with minimal quality.

If you save it for your own use for editing, use your own favorite editor format, I use PSD for Photoshop. Keep it this way, and when you are going to prepare an image for posting on the web, save it as a jpg, the editor will probably ask you for flattten layers, discard hidden ones etc. You will get a flat image suitable for publishing on the web. If you keep an original PSD, you'll be able to change the image you posted with ease, afterwards.
