Thread: Light modification in aircraft.cfg file???

Default Light modification in aircraft.cfg file???

I was wondering if anyone knows how to modify the position of lights as defined in the "LIGHTS" section of the aircraft.cfg file? I d/l the wonderful Beech Super 18 yesterday and noticed the landing light beams are about a foot below the leading edge of the wing when turned on. I'd like to adjust them so they're properly positioned.
Also, does anyone know how to modify an aircraft's texture files to remove it's multi-texturing? Same aircraft has multi-textures, but they're constantly going out of focus. I'd like to convert them to a plain old texture and can live with any performance hit it might cause.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    Dave -

I have no idea, but I'd suggest checking the tips page available using the link at the top of this page. It might have something that will help.

In the meantime, I'll give ya a bump. ;-)

You're already close to the answer if you found the "LIGHTS" portion of the .cfg files.

I just added lights to three planes that didn't have them by adding the light section from the .cfg files of other planes. Once you add the lights, you adjust them by chancing the values in the lights section. If I remember correctly there are 3 sets of numbers for each light - one set for front to rear; one set for left to right; and one set for up and down. It takes some trial and error adjustments, but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.

Email me directly if you need more help.

Thanks Paul. I've been experimenting with the "Lights.5" line as it supposedly pertains to landing light position (based on the "Types:" header line). I figured the third number would be the determining position for vertical alignment (longitudinal, lateral, vertical in order is how the eyepoint is set), however whatever I change it to makes no difference. I'm at a loss.
Thanks for the input, I'll experiment more tomorrow.

    Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the link. Tried that already to no avail. There's some info regarding lights and textures, but not the specific info I'm looking for. The "Flight Sim Veterans FS2002 Tips and Tricks" is a great resource though.

    PS; Thanks for the updated sig. I'll work on incorporating it into my posts soon, but for now;

    Try making "bold" adjustments.

I had to make adjustments greater than 0.2 up to 2.0 or more to the 7 digit numbers (example - change from 2.000000 to 2.200000).

Keep trying - it should work.

Pity there isn't some kind of editor for adding FS2k2 lights....it's like playing "pin the tail on the donkey". Worth it in the end though.

If you use the info from the "aircraft geometry" section
to make a three-view sketch of the AC on graph paper, it
is a lot easier to get closer to the correct coordinates
    for lights and effects locations:D

Try Aircraft Container Manager V2.0. It supposed to be for F/S 2002 but it also works in F/S 2004.

I don't remember where I got mine but it is super useful and I use it all the time.

Try to Google it and I'm sure it will show up - It's called: Aircraft Container Manager V2.0"

    good hunting !
