Default Cirrus Precision Flight Controller (PFC) Serial port interface not working with FSX

    ISSUE:

UNABLE TO GET PRECISION FLIGHT CONTROLS (PFC) TO RESPOND IN FSX DUING FLIGHT MODE.

I believe have the following hardware equipment CIRRUS II Equipment:

    - One Cirrus Precision Flight Controller PCATD (non-USB) York.

    - One Precision Flight Controls Throttle Quadrants (Does not have the Protocol Switch under the Throttle Push Rods, or behind the Throttle Quadrants when removed. This Flight Console Box only contains 6 levers for Throttle Quadrants, Rudder Trim knob, LDG Gear UP/Down Switch and Flap up/down Switch.

    - One Pro Pedals for Rudder controls.

    - One IC Universal Control Interface – 4 box (UCI) manufactured by Elite.

    Existing Connectivity:

    - Rudder physically connected to Flight Console Box via 15 Pin cable.
    - York physically connected to Flight Console Box via 15 pin cable.
    - Flight Console physically connect to UCI Box via 25 pin serial cable.
    - UCI Box physically connected to serial port of the Computer via 9 pin cable.

    Software Installed:
    - Operating System: XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2

    - Simulator: FSX Deluxe Edition (C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X)

    - Drivers:
    - FSUIP4.DLL version 4.7.2.8 (located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules)

    - pfcfsx.dll version 4.3.7.6 ((located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules)

    - PFCFSX.DLL version 4.3.7.6 ((located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules)

    Issue:
    - PFC doest keep to be working during Flight mode in FSX.

    However:
    - PCF Control Connection loads up and check operat5ion of the PFC equipment. Under Com! Port all the items are check green other the last two items..
    - Pressed F8 to Continue.

    - Pressed Alt, and under Add-on FSUIPC and PFC drop down tabs show up.
    - Under FSUIPC Options and Settings, version 4.728b, this copy is not registered, is indicted. [FSUIPC and WIDEFS are not activated.)

    - Under FSX Setting – controls window “Controller Type” drop down menu does not show the “Cirrus II”

Under Add-on, when PFC is selected:
    - Precision Flight Controls window pops up.
    - Flight Controls: checked Ailerons, Elevator and Rudder and set automatic and performed calibration as per PFC Serial Cat III and FSX system Setup Guide.
    - Under Quadrants, Selected “Twin prop”.
    - Under Consoles checked CIRRUS II Console Button Codes enables and set trim Sensitivity to 55.
    - When we press “OK” and start flying the PFC control do not respond in the FSX.

Under FSX control setting, PFC controlled does not show up.
However in the PFC pop up window, when we select Test tab, and move the PFC hardware, the right column seem to pass the pass the “Test” on all the hardware controls including ruddar hardware..

What is the mistake we are doing? Interested in getting the PFC control to respond and work during flying in the FSX.

Appreciate any help in getting the PFC controls to respond in the FSX, during flight.

    Thanks

    Hi Kris,

Welcome to the world of Precision Flight Control Systems.

Being somewhat of a betting man, appears we both have the same equipment.

PFCFSX used to be available directly from the factory, past several years they prefer Mr. Dawson website to update all PFCFSX, since it clearly can conflict with FSUIPC, why not one master? That being said, its free. However in the FSX Module Folder, open and if PFCFSX.dll appears more than once (different versions), eliminate all with the exception of the latest version. To allow otherwise they all conflict with each other and will not work, at all.

FSUIPC regardless of version (they should overwrite older versions), and you need with your system, 100% workable, need to register and purchase a license for it, cheap and well documented and written by Peter Dawson, truly well worth the investment, considering the cost of the PFC equipment. In the future, check his site, always upgrading because many flight schools and individuals throw feedback to Mr. Dawson, hence the constant updates, usually at no charge.

Let me know your progress, glad to help any time.

    Fly blue side up,

I just got a feed back from PFC techsupport@flypfc.com stating:

"Since you do not have the protocol switch, your device is not compatible with FSX, FSX2004 or X-Plane. It is only designed to work with ELITE.
As for the controls connection check passing. This is a false positive, this is caused by the driver mistaking the erroneous signal as valid signals.

    Sorry for the inconvenience."

In this case do I need to buy Elite software for $199 so it work

Or can I do something to make this older PFC hardware work with FSX? Do I download from SimMarket.com or from www.schiratti.com web site the latest version of FSUIPC4?

    DO In need WIDEFS6 too?

    Thanks

    Do I need to download

    Option1:
FSUIPC4 4.853 (NEW Full release of FSUIPC 4 (incorporating WideFS 7) for use with FSX September 6th 2012 (6.2 MB)

    OR

    Option 2:
PFC DLL 2.40 includes 4.40 for FSX (This program is an FS2000/FS2002/FS2004/FSX driver and the 4.40 driver for FSX for the COM-port connected equipment produced by PFC (Precision Flight Controls Inc.) It handles the Throttle Quadrant Console, Cirrus II, Professional Flight Console, and the Jetliner, with options such as Pedals, Avionics Stack and the Remote Instrument Controller (RIC). GOT THE OLD SERIAL PORT Precision Flite Controls (PFC) hardware WORKING WITHOUT USING PFCfsx.dll DRIVERS

    ISSUE RESOLVED
    .

    Deleted ALL pcffsx.dll files completely from C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Modules.

    Reinstalled FSUIP4.DLL.

Found Elitefs.exe from the flyelite FROM THE FOLLOWING website: http://www.flyelite.ch/en/products/hardware.php.

Download and installed this software on the computer having XP 32 bit operating system.

Followed intructions as defined in Elitefs.pdf document. http://www.simflight.com.au/files/elitefs[1].pdf

    Stated FSX simulator.

Elite drivers were installed automatically after FSX was stated.

    Calibrated as per Elitefs.pdf instructions.

STARED FLYING USING PFC (SERIAL PORT) HARDWARE in FSX.

All the old serial port handware controller worked, which include the York, Ruddar and Precision Flight Controls Throttle Quadrants (Does not have the Protocol Switch under the Throttle Push Rods, or behind the Throttle Quadrants when removed. This Flight Console Box only contains 6 levers for Throttle Quadrants, Rudder Trim knob, LDG Gear UP/Down Switch and Flap up/down Switch. CONNECTED via UCI box).

Our PFC hardware is one of the oldest serial port system purchased originally when it was introduced 20-25 years ago and was operating on Windows 95 system. Currently using Windows XP 32 bit.

    LESSONS LEARNED:

    1) All old PFC serial port hardware work with Elitefs.exe.

    2) These Older PFC hardward do not work with pcfsfx.dll drivers since they are DO NOT HAVE A "PROTOCOL SWICTH" AND AND ARE NOT COMPATABLE WITH FSX.

    3) It is not required to registed FSUIPC , unless you want FSUIPC to control and do all calibration.

    4) It is not required to convert PFC hardware from serial to USB port.

    5) It is not required to buy new PFC hardware containing USB interface.

    6) Also downloaded Elite Pilot V8 simulator DEMO version and test the same PFC hardward using the same computer. All hardware works.

    7) The above applies to older PFC hardware that do come with a "Protocol Switch" under the Throttle Push Rods, or behind the Throttle Quadrants when removed.

    Enjoy Flying.
