    Default Scenery File Help Please!!!

Hi everybody. Need some Mega help with this one Please,

Over the past few Days I have Downloaded the Following Packs of Scenery

FS2002/FS2004 West Coast 38.2 m Terrain. West Coast is part of Raimondo Taburet's new freeware terrain mesh scenery for the whole of the USA designed at 38.2 m. Created using USGS elevation models source 30m, resampled at 38.2. The whole package includes Alaska, West Coast, Central, East Coast. By Raimondo Taburet.

A Total of 53 Zip Files in all.

However, when opening Readme File to look for instuctions on how to Install, this is the Instruction I get:-

“Do what you like with this scenery - Just keep it free for all - other than that - feel free!!.”

OK, Polite replies Please, What do I do with these Files.

I can see a total mess occuring if I don’t get this right.

    Any help Please

    Regards

    Paul

The way I install my scenery is as follows.

    Download ..which you have
Unzip to a temp folder... recommended
Install .. many ways work, some are better than others

    Sounds simple , yes.

A lot of redme instructions suggest to put all the UNPACKED .bgl files into your default Scenery\World\Scenery folder which does work BUT can be difficult to find ALL the relevant files ... {you have 53 zips which may contain many more .bgl files } if something goes wrong such as a conflict etc...

I keep ALL my BGL's by size in their own folders which I ten add throught the menu at startup.

So you might see something like ....

US_Landclass... Scenery Folder with USlandclas.blg (tweaked to merge with ultimate Terrain landclass)
Americas_19m ... Scenery Folder inside holds all the US,Canada,Mexico,Bahamas,Hawaii 19m bgls only
Americas_38m... Scenery folder dito 38m only
Americas_rest ... Scenery Folder holds ...etc and so forth.
    Ultimate Terrain
    Glacier Park
    Addon Scenery
and so forth everything else you have

I always start with the 76m -up to 500m first and fire up the simulator to make sure ther are no conflicts.
Then the 38m Layer on top of that, then the 19m Layer on top of that which is the best you can get.

Sounds like a lot of work but it has saved my system from the dreaded lock ups and freezes over the years.
If something does go wrong with a corrupt file then its easy to isolate because you only need to look at the last files you added.

Dont forget to set TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=21 so your new scenery shows up.

I am by no means an expert.. there are many generous people here who have helped me out on various other matters BUT the above works very well for me

    Hello,

Cannot seem to find this File, Should point out that I'm using WindowsXP.
    Hmmm

    FS9.CFG is located there:
    C:\Documents and Settings\YOURNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\FS9

Be sure to allow "view systems and hidden files" in your "view" settings of your Windows files Explorer

    Hi, thanks for reply.

There is nothing in My Name, PAUL Folder called Application Data or Microsoft\FS9.

Should I be looking in Program Files, Flight Simulator 9.

    Many thanks

    regards

    Paul.

    NO Not Program Files....

The previous advice was correct.. The application Data Folder must exist there otherwise your Fs9 could not function, thats where it keeps its important files.

Have you turned ON the show all folders option ???
Microsoft like to hide its important Folders.
Havent used XP for all of 2 weeks (how quickly they forget) but from memory the Application Data folder has a hidden attribute.

    Also keep in mind that you do not need to overclutter your Fs9 folder. (Appart from Aircraft which must go there}
I keep all my addons in an outside directory.
