Thread: When is next version of microsoft flight coming?

  1. Default

If people want fly with a stable version, then they're using X-Plane 10.05 or X-Plane 9.70. If they want to test all the new 10.10 features, then they have to install a Beta:
    http://wiki.x-plane.com/Beta

You can choose. But the nice thing is: even with the latest X-Plane 10.10 Beta, I can still use all the planes and sceneries I bought for X-Plane 9, and I can even use planes designed for X-Plane 8.

Excuse me but except for XPLANE, none of the above sims related here are closest to a 5% of what FSX has.

Nels, having gone through a similar development process for FSX, albeit fewer iterations, X-Plane's constantly moving target is nothing more than a commercial developer's worst nightmare. For hobbiest/amateur development it's not so much of a problem...

...but having hundreds of hours of professional development time suddenly negated by a change in the base platform, is not an attactive proposition.

    Amen Brother Bill!!

What puzzles me though is why some people are "annoyed" by the concept of an "academic" version - it has been used as a marketing ploy for years. I wonder how many non academics purchased the academic version of MS Office? and others. It's not a big deal - it's a way to get the product out to more people at a reduced price without lowering the price of the brand. Marketing 101.

Why is this such a surprise? As long as LM doesn't develop a retail box and marketing structure, they are fine.

This reminds me of Windows 8 and VS2012.. currently it's out for "evaluation purposes only". Yet if you actually need to develop for the platform there is no other option but to violate the "EULA" and upgrade to RTM from the betas. Maybe I should take two months off and wait?

    Why so excited?

Where did I say it was my business. I was responding to your assertion that LM "carefully defined it so broadly" by letting others see the wording for themselves so they can make up their own minds - rather than relying on second-hand opinions.

Sorry dude.. you didn't clarify anything... and no there is no way as a NON-lawyer that you can make it anything other than a second hand opinion. All you've done is justified your own opinion, and at the same time ignored all of LMs actions that would suggest it is available to a "broader" market.

It's not necessary to be a lawyer to understand it - no more than a pilot to understand and approach chart or a flight dynamicist to understand .air and .cfg files.

I didn't give any opinion. I showed what the EULA's actually state. I leave it to other to interpret them how they choose - "carefully defined it so broadly."
