Thread: Sim crashes shortly after loading flight

  1. Unhappy Sim crashes shortly after loading flight

Like all of us, I've been using FS9 for years on multiple computers. If I could combine all my flight hours from my different machines, I could likely get a license of some sort.

I installed MSFS on my Win 7 machine about eight months ago and have learned to work around the quirks associated with it on the OS. Unfortunately, on last weekend's flight from KSEA-KSFO, flight sim crashed as ATC started me on the approach to the runway. I was able to load my last save and tried adjusting things like my decent speed and my response time, but it crashed at almost the exact spot every time. I tried starting another flight with different aircraft and different locations, but they wouldn't even start, it just crashed when the flight started to load. Therefore, I'm looking for suggestions how to solve the problem.

The only error message I receive is that flight sim has stopped responding. Win 7 then looks for updates and closes the program. For the last few months, I've been adding AI planes and flights through yRoute and AI Flight Creator. With my current computer, I have more space for storage, so I added a few Project Airbus planes. I've noticed that none of them have worked though when specifically looking for them at their departure time and airport. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with the sim crashing or if it's just a coincidence. I've also seen several aircraft paints not showing up in my aircraft selector after checking numerous times that I added them correctly.

Any experience others have had and solutions they have found are appreciated. I did search the forum, but nothing seemed to come up. Looking forward to my weekends of virtual flying may be grounded for a while if it's something too serious.

Have had similar trouble get carried away and had to reinstall a few times real bumber but have been told to look for bad texture files and finally found a bumb AI aircraft. Problem solved but like trying to get a virus of the hard drive.

Did you apply the uiautomationcore.dll fix? Put this in your main FS9 folder (not Aircraft) http://www.mediafire.com/?mik2mlqdz1w

This is an FSX fix and does not apply to FS9.

    Download at your own risk.

The first thing to do is back up your FS9.cfg before deleting it and let the sim build a new one.

If this fixes it you will then have to add your mods/tweaks back in. Do so in manageable blocks so you can identify the culprit if it is one of your mods/tweaks.

If this does not get the sim running then you will have to start removing addons until you get the sim running again.

First thing would be to run any addon configuration applets and return everything to default.

Then back up your scenery.cfg and get the default one off of your install discs.

The scenery.cfg is on disc #4 and you will probably want the complete one.

Instructions to do this can be found here- http://www.cat-tamer.com/flightsim/faq001.html

Multiple Afcads can supposedly cause this too, so you might want to look for them.

This should keep you busy for a while, let us know how you do.

I will give these a shot, thanks. I only have one scenery addition, but I've done A LOT of work in AFCAD, so hopefully that's not it. As usb777 experienced, I may need to forget adding Airbus since they don't seem to be working either. Sounds like a busy Saturday ahead.

1st thing i would do is disable AI, this will quickly tell you if it is an AI aircraft issue. If not then possibly a scenery issue. scanafd is a program that will tell you if you have more than 1 afcad file for an airport. good luck

p.s. no need to call me Capt folks, Capt Flappers is just a name my wife teases me with because of my flight sim obsession.

Everything started working again after removing all AI flights from an US Airways Airbus I had just added. Thanks for the help everyone.

If you're going to continue crashing airplanes, I have an ex-mother-in-law I would like to purchase a ticket for on one of your flights!

If it doesn't have a prop, it's not a real airplane!

Well, I prefer to full flights from point A to point B without incident. However, if you pay enough for tickets, I could attempt flying from say KSFO to PHNL in a Cessna 172 or something similar.
