Thread: What does COMDLG32.OCX have to do with ExcBuilder? ExcBuilder won't open.

Question What does COMDLG32.OCX have to do with ExcBuilder? ExcBuilder won't open.

ExcBuilder refuses to open and gives me this error msg: "Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not corectly registered: a file is missing or invalid."

Anubody know what that means? I haven't a clue. Downloaded and installed a new version of ExcBuilder thinking it was my old version causing the problem. Got the same thing.

Don't know what to do to get ExcBuilder to work at this point. Anybody got any ideas????

That is a system file that ExcBuilder requires to operate.

    What OS are you using?

Bean: Am running FS9 with XP. For a time I had FS9 on a Win7-64 machine but that cptr went belly up and I put FS9 back on an older cptr with XP. Maybe that's part of the problem. Is COMDLG32.OCX for XP or Win7, do you know?

Trying to find out what to do now. Can't use ExcBuilder v2 at all.

PS: I do miss our friend OPA, he helped me out of a mess several times.

The first step is to see if you have that file on your PC.

    It should be in C:\Windows\System32

It's been a while, but I seem to remember not having it on my XP machine, way back when.

If you don't have it you will have to Google it and get a copy off of the net.

I cannot recommend a good place to get it, make sure your anti-virus is running when you find it.

Stay away from any website that tells you they need to "fix" your system.

Once you have the file in C:\Windows\System32 you will have to register it.

Click on Start, then Run and enter "regsvr32 \windows\system32\COMDLG32.OCX"

It's best to copy that line without the quotation marks and past it in the Run line.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the help Bean. Followed your steps and got it registered. Worked great! Much obliged!!

Then I attempted to open the ExcBuilder program and got a message that I need to have th MSSDFMT.DLL file installed. What the heck is that and how do I handle it???

Would appreciate any advice as I'm over my head here.

Oops!! That should be MSSTDFMT.DLL Left out a "T"

I don't remember adding that file, but I do have it.

The procedure for msstdfmt.dll would be the same as it was for comdlg32.ocx.

The only difference being changing the filename when you register it.

while looking through some older posts related to this subject I happened across a post from Opa pointing to http://www.dll-files.com/ as a good source for .dll files. If it's good enough for Opa, it's good enough for me.

Thanks Bean, I finally got all streightened out.

Tried the Dll-files site that our friend Opa recommended awhile back. It says it will give you one free install of any dll, so I gave it a try. It downloaded the dll OK and said it installed it properly, but it actually didn't. They want you to send them $29 to get it all right. No thanks. I followed your advice and did it manualy instead. That worked and the ExcBuilder once again works.

So, just wanted to say thanks for your help.
