    Default engine sound issue

I had numerous issues with the Nord 500 - gauges not working properly, odd collective response, no fuel consumption - which were all alleviated by changing the engine type from 5 (turboprop) to 3 (heli turbine). But in doing so I lost all engine sounds. Since this aircraft uses a single turbine to drive two ducted fans, another helicopter sound wouldn't be accurate due to rotor sounds. So, what do I now edit to get the new engine to use the old sounds?

Tried using FS Sound Editor to create a new set from the original files but it aborted, complaining of no startup sounds. Also considered using the sound.cfg from a helicopter and just changing the file names it calls; but from experience I know that can be a can of worms if everything doesn't blend properly.
Or I could create a new sound set from scratch, but that's a bit of work when it seems there should be a simple flag to set somewhere.

I read a long description once regarding helicopter sounds. I got CRS pretty bad so all I really recall is that the sound config has to be written for a specific engine type, and changing the engine type in the aircraft config will require a different matching sound config or most likely a new sound folder. If someone knew a lot more about FS9 sounds than I do they might be able to modify the config in your sound folder to work. Since I don't know how to do that I would have to look for another sound folder I could live with. One side note is that engine type 3 does not support startup/shutdown sounds in most cases.

    jgf,
I tried to PM you but your inbox is 'full' (won't accept any more PM's). Anyway, I have a sound set, orig for RotoDyne, size=360 Kb, orig for FS98, that will work with either type 5, 3 or 1 engine in FS9. The sound in in 14 Mb file, 'rotodyne_bea.zip', avail here at FSCom. Let me know how you like it.

I also mess with vehicles and have 'updated' dynamics for various vehicles including the Al Lee Willy's jeep (repaint/driver by Gary Burns). And LRDG truck, etc.

Thanks. I'll give that a shot. After no one, on several forums, had any ideas, and two evenings reading everything I could find online about FS2k2/FS2004/FSX sounds disclosed nothing, I bit the bullet and used the default Bell as a base for creating a sound set using the original Nord files.

Comparing numerous sounds for all types of engines, I can see nothing definite in the cfg that designates a sound for a particular engine. Oddly FS Sound Studio complained that the default Bell 206 sound.cfg is in FS98 format, but if you let it "update" that cfg to FS2004 format it no longer works in FS2004!
