Thread: Where to find an Airbus A318 paint kit?

Default Where to find an Airbus A318 paint kit?

    Hi everyone

I'm currently working on a Qantas Airways Airbus A318. However it's going to have to be a hybrid livery with Airbus House (textures by Luis Quintero). The paint kit on the PAFS website is for FS9 only, and the textures seem to be corrupt. Can anyone help me on this issue?

This is the repaint. The Qantas main logo, motto, registraton, and engine logos were created by me. However the rest is by Luis Quintero. I cannot contact him anywhere unfortunately and therefore I need the paint kit. Can anyone please help me out?

    Thanks everyone!

    Lavan.

Why do you think the paint kit is corrupt?

Do they have a FSX specific model?

If not, why won't the paint kit work for FSX?

    Hi,

Thanks for replying to my post.

The paint kit for the Airbus A318, isn't corrupt, must have been a problem with the original download. It works fine now.

However, the A318 paint kit is not blank, it's in a Frontier Airlines livery. I downloaded the A319 kit to compare it and the A319 is blank.

I think the FS9 paintkits will work with FSX, as the FSX A318 I am using has textures with identical shapes to the FS9 version. My only problem is the Frontier Airlines livery.

Does anyone know where to download a blank A318?

    Thank you!

    Lavan

The paintkits work in both sims. Take Project Opensky, for example. The majority of their aircraft are for FS2004, some CRJs are for FS2002. But, the paintkits work as FSX is compatible with the models. The textures are easily recognised by the sim. As Project Airbus has aircraft for FS2004 and FSX, all that means is that some textures are slightly different. FSX has more hi-res stuff I think. On the FSX only ones, I found that it needs SP2 installed and seeing as I don't want the hassle of installing it, I just used the FS2004 textures instead. It worked fine! /Rambling

I guess if all else fails, just find a livery with a mainly white fuselage and see if you can paint the rest out. I've not had to do that thankfully, as they say it's frowned upon etc.
But who's gonna know?! I'll try downloading it myself and if it works and is blank, I'll send it to you

Ok, I downloaded it and it is a Frontier livery. I dunno what the hell happened there. Kind of annoying really.

    Hi Joel

Thanks for the reply. Yep I've tested and the FS9 version is working fine with the FSX version.

That's what I'm attempting to do right now. Find a mainly, or completely blank fuselage and paint over it. But even the tiny things like windows, dirts etc, will be recognised by someone as not my own, and I don't want to be barked at over a repaint. I really wish I could contact Project Airbus, or any other texture maker, but I don't know how

Same thing happened to me. It's Frontier. Weirdest thing. The A319 paintkit has blank textures. I wish PAFS had included a contact us section.

I guess you could always try their forums. The Project Airbus team are pretty active from what I've seen.
I wouldn't worry about the over-paint, the windows in these paintkits are often all the same anyway. If you want to change them it's not too difficult, it just requires a close up photo of an aircraft. Once you have that, just cut around the window in paint and then paste it into Photoshop/GIMP and resize as necessary. It works surprisingly well!
Looking good so far, I like it
Oh yeah, one more thing, for painting out logos, I suggest Air France. They have such a basic livery and it should be easy to paint over The tail logo doesn't extend onto the fuselage and the body logo is pretty small. Just don't forget to go over the registrations on the side and on the left wing

    Hi again Joel

I posted in the Project Airbus forums about 24 hours ago to no avail, so far. Hopefully something comes up soon.

When you say "close up photo of an aircraft", you mean a real aircraft? If so, I'll do some lassoing in Photoshop and try and edit it, because I just don't like being barked at. Just copped a spray from some idiot on Facebook. I hit back hard at him though. Posted the conversation on my page, link below.

Thanks for the kind words! Surprised my first repaint went this smoothly!

And another thank you for the tip about the Air France tail! I'll try that but I'm unsure as to whether or not to continue with the repaint or not. I'm received help from another kind member as to how to find different repainters, so I may be able to find Mr Quintero.

    Best Regards

    Lavan.

    Joel! Good news!

Turns out Mr Quintero isn't one of the official members of Project Airbus. The House livery was downloaded as part of a Mega Package elsewhere. But when I downloaded the SAME livery from the PAFS site, the author was different. It was Mr Tom Collins.

And in the readmes of the files from the mega package, and the PAFS site, Tom Collins is in the Credits list, while Luis Quintero is not. Luckily, Tom Collins added an email address, and I've promptly sent him an email.

    Thanks for all the help!

Something sounded a little hincky here, so I actually looked at the paint kit.

    I haven't used it in a while.

While the individual textures (A318_fuse_n_t.psd) have the Frontier liver on them, the full side does not.

The intent is for you to make your paint on the full side and then copy your work onto the smaller textures.

The Frontier livery is there simply to help you line up what you copy from the full side.

As per the readme, and generally accepted in the community when using a paintkit, you are allowed to use the content of the paint kit. Meaning you do not have to create every rivet panel line, door, window, shadow, etc. just the airline specific content.

No need to bother anyone with permission requests if you follow the readme guidelines.
