Thread: Anyone would be interested in something like this?

  1. Default Anyone would be interested in something like this?

Being that now my simulator is in my living room and the better half was always complaining everytime I left the yoke, pedals and throttle quadrant hooked up to the table, I decided to come up with a table which would allow me to quickly set it up, install my hardware and once done, take it apart and storing it in the closet.

I did some research on the Internet and found a very similar table mainly used for driving wheels, so I took that idea and came up with this table shown below in the pics. The table does not have variable heights but the yoke ends up at being 33" off the ground, which is exactly how the real B737-800NG's yoke is. I might be wrong but I don't that height would be an average for many other aircrafts. As you will see, I have Saitek yoke/pedals/quadrants installed and everything is just perfect as far as placement is concerned.

The table is EXTREMELY sturdy. I would say it can easily support about 100lbs but being this is the "prototype", I don't want to make it go right now through a weight capacity test. It can easily be folded and stored away.

The driving wheel version of this table starts at $79 + shipping in eBay. If I have enough people interested in getting one of these, I would take orders at a cheaper price than the one on eBay.

And of course, yoke/pedals/throttle are NOT INCLUDED.

Without further a do, here are the pics:

It's an interesting idea. I could see something like this working for me, as long as it is easily folded up for storage. If the hardware can be rapid mounted vs. permanently screwed in, it would work (though I might be a little too aggressive with the portability). I have an iMac but what I'd like to do is when I pull out the table I'd rapid mount the kit together and use my big screen TV in the next room to "fly". The good thing about the iMac is that it's so easily portable I'd just unhook the few peripherals from the iMac, move it to my big screen area and hook the iMac to the big screen TV and the hardware.

I know it sounds ridiculous but we use our computer for a home business and we can't have clients coming by and wondering what's up with the flight sim kit in the office?? (you guys working on our account? Or playing airplane??)
