    Default speed

    Hi everyone. Question, Is there anyway to increase the speed of FS airlines? I.E. The Posky 330's I have will only reach about 400 to 405 Knts. Way too slow I think. Anyway how can one increase speeds? BTW it's also good to sometime have that extra power. If I try to climb to altitude with a full load I can't go more then 700-800 feet a min. If I climb at a higher rate I'll stall. Thanks

    hmmm. Looks like you are simply pushing the limits of a given aircraft.

    Also, make sure you knoe the difference between IAS and TAS.

    Well if you usually use the default Flight Planner to plan your flight then on the Navigation Log, you'll see how many gallons of fuel are needed, so you take this amount plus 500 more gallons just in case for any delays and put it in the "Fuel" section under the "Aircraft" menu so you only have the necessary fuels and this will allow higher speed and you'll be able to climb about 1,800 feet a minute or more, and it will also give you easier handling of the aircraft.

    You can change the performance of aircraft in FS relatively easily by altering the .cfg file of each aircraft.

    But then you're no longer `simulating`, you're `gaming`.

    The figures you quite ARE realistic for the aircraft. Probably better to spend the time doing the research on IAS and TAS and Mach speeds, as suggested.

    The FS tutorials are useful. So is the manual.

    Thanks for the suggestion, but I am NOT getting "realistic" speed in the 330. It is supposed to reach about 480 max. but I'm only getting about 400-405. So if you don't mind telling me, how and where and what do I change in the config file? thanks

    I don't mean to beat a point into the ground, but you didn't answer whether you understand the difference between Indicated Air Speed and True Air Speed.

    Seems to me (without going in-sim to check it out) that about 405ish IAS would be in the high 400's if you're flying at a high altitude. Heck, even flying at 10 or 11,000 ft in the Archer, my IAS is 80ish and yet my GS is about 110 or more (depending on wind).

    That's another point... are you taking wind into consideration? It can get fast at higher altitudes.

    Default I think he understands......

    ...the difference between IAS & TAS; there's no way he'd get 405 knts out the airbus if he was displaying IAS ( alright, he could, but not without an alarm going off ). And if he was displaying TAS, he's right, he should be able to get a little more speed out of it. Only thing is, probably should be relying on Mach rather than airspeed over FL200 or so. Also, you are talking about a Posky here. Does this " problem " occur on all aircraft or only Posky ? I'd check a few things first. Not to state the obvious to belittle anyone, but are you in clean configuration ? Are you sure ? Speed brake deployed ? How heavy are you ? How about some step climbs to burn off some fuel. What do you mean by it won't go over 405 knts ? Do you get an overspeed alarm or will it not physically go faster than 405 knts GS ? Let us know & we'll try to answer the best we can, however I doubt a config is necessary as the air files are probably correct, but it's your sim, so if you want to change things around, that's up to you. I'm sure someone can help you if that's what you really want to do. Just thought I'd offer up a few possibilities first before changing things around.

    Speaking of alarms, I have been trying to find a way to turn off the sound that the alarms make . . . "Stall . . . Stall . . . Stall . . .Stall." Ok, I get the idea, but it's driving me crazy when that occurs, or if I intentionally stall. I can't find the sound file for that alarm. Can anyone help me with this? I just want to turn off the sound for the alarm.

    Default I'm not an expert in this area,

    ...but I'm guessin' if you go into your sound folder and look for a file called stall.wav or something close to that, listen to it in a sound player that supports .wav files to confirm it's the offending file and remove it ( or just move it to a different folder ) that'd take care of the irritating warning alarm.
    Could be an easier way to do it, but like I said, I'm no expert so don't hold me responsible if it doesn't work ;-)

    Go to teh aircraft.cfg and find where it says static thrust, there will be a value next to that just increase that value, you can also set teh parasite and induced drag to 1.0. This is what I have mine set as, this is in no way realistic but it will go about 520kts over the ground and no problems getting to altitude. I cant belive noone else would tell you this. There is like 5 posts above this with B.S. answers. I hope this helps. Here are my figures. I think this is from A330-300:

    static_thrust=71100.000
    [flight_tuning]
    cruise_lift_scalar=1.000
    parasite_drag_scalar=1.000
