    Question Performance

    Afternoon,

I need osme advice, is my system to low to support the game now? I am sometimes getting v bad frame rates and other times the game is just crashing out It's strange as some of my game play is fine with very good frame rates but other times, the frame rates are very bad.

    I am running with:

    FSX, SP2
    My Traffic 2010
    Gatwick & Stansted Extreme.
    REX Essential
    FSPassengers
    Ground Services X
    Project Airbus A321
    GEX and UTX Europe
    Audio Environment X

My settings are maxed out and the my processor is getting quite hot after about 15 mins of game play.

    Many Thanks.

    The tweaks worked

I have the game running very smoothly with very nice frame rates now

The down side is that it is still crashing out at the end of a Flight and I have no idea why, I am not convinced it is the graphics card but no way to tell :S

You mentioned that the processor is getting very hot. Could be a overheating problem. Try pulling a few sliders to the left and see what happens. It may not look very pretty, but if the temperature drops, you will know what is wrong.

    Good luck!

I think it quite possibly could be

I have just had a fiddle with the Graphics card settings and turned them all well down, would this help reduce heat to?

Sounds like you are getting there!
You can monitor your graphics card using this: GPUz
It will log it's performance if you want. Very useful to tell if your Video card is being pushed near it's limit...Don

Ok, just downloaded it and that with the lower card settings I am hooing will resolve it.

It is getting very annoying getting to within 50 miles of my destination and then having it crash lol

    I'll keep you posted.

Ok, I've re run the flight with the GPUz in the background and kept having a look. It's gonna be a heat problem. The system was spiking at 75C with almost everything maxed out

Would buying a better Graphics Card help this?

    Any other ideas?

What was the usage(in %) when it was getting to 75C? 90-95% is pushing pretty hard.
85% or less should be fine when you're pixel pushing FSX. Less than that for not so demanding planes and scenery.
If you are not consistently over 85%, the 550Ti is probably plenty.
Besides that, better(higher performing) cards usually run even hotter, so, case cooling demand will climb.

Open up your case and make sure your card's cooling fan and all of your case fans are; working right, clean, and free of clingons.
Look for ways to optimize the fresh air going to the video card. Is a Side Port pointing at it available?
Adding cooling to the case, where possible, or upgrading to higher performing fans would be first on my list of "to do".

Usually, if a Video card is running hot, so is the CPU, especially with FSX. CPU temps OK? <65C is preferred <70C OK >70C marginal.

The fastest and easiest fix is to simply back off the sliders...Don
