There are virtual airlines and ZLA ARTCC offer hands on Vatsim training. You can talk and read about the Vatsim subject tell your blue in the face and it will never substitute doing it. Here are a few that offer hands on courses.

It does look like you got FSInn installed correctly.
You will need a microphone and speakers/headphones if you want verbal communication.
Your next trick will be to position yourself in airspace that has people logged on as ATC. A tip might be to cchose a location where it is early evening in the real world. in other words writing will appear on the FSInn ATC panel
Your aircraft has a radio stack. View Instrument Panel Radio. You click the knobs until the frequency on the radio matches the frequency on the FSInn panel. You should be able to talk to one another
The other way of communication is by using the keyboard. You can type your message into the Chat panel of FSInn.
You best source of help is the VATSIM forum and you may even find a local support group who you chat to over teamspeak..
