Some of you may remember a post David made not long before he died where he posted a photo of a wooden trunk he was building for his grandaughter. I was in contact with him via e-mail at that time and causually mentioned that I admired his work and wouldn't mind seeing a few more photos of the trunk. He obliged and sent me a .zip file with some photos which has subsequently become one of the most treasured (and backed up) files I have. I don't think he'd mind if I posted these up here at this point. I know it doesn't have anything to do with FS, but it shows David's crafstmanship and basically just the care that went into pretty much anything he did:

    RIP Opa.

I will never forget "Opa", nor shall I forget his great posts and the help he gave.
He and I exchanged a few emails on a scenery subject, outside the forums, and he taught me some very useful things.

Now I see he was great at woodwork also.

Ezra Pound, the great American poet, once wrote:

"Desolate is the roof where the cat sat,
Desolate is the iron rail that he walked
And the corner post whence he greeted the sunrise."

Part of the Poundian poem is here:

Opa, may your days be always full of sunlight, and may you never be desolate where you are. We are near you all the time.

Yes, and just a note that life is not certain. It changes and it is how we chose to deal with life. David was always a giving person, and will be remembered for that.
A very patient person whom I admired.

A whole year has passed... I am still saddened, my eyes fill with tears and my heart hurts every time I think of him. I can only imagine the massive loss his family must fill. He was such a dear man. My thoughts are with his family during this period marking the anniversary of his passing.

Jim, thank you so very much for sharing the pictures of David's woodworking talents. I am not surprised to learn he enjoyed woodworking; he was certainly a master craftsman at whatever he did. I think of him almost daily and I am reminded that we all have a responsibility to follow the exceptional example of love, kindness, compassion and mentoring that David showed to other people around him. The man seemed to live his life by 'The Golden Rule' every day.

I posted this screenshot a year ago today... I hope it is okay to share it again as we remember him.
He is missed by all of us.

Only met him through these forums, but what a lasting impression. May he rest in peace, but live on in our memories. Roy.

David is someone who is truly missed in this Community, more than ever before. At a time where the FS Community is in a state of upheaval, with daily dogfights, tussles, name calling and accusations being thrown around all over the various FS sites, I would believe David would have interjected his usual calm, balanced words of wisdom for all of us to hear.

Maybe that's the problem; too many 'in the know' trying to position themselves as 'the ones in charge', instead of extending assistance and having a friendly attitude towards the newcomers. There are too many out there with the "I know more than you do, so your opinions are dirt" angle, or "if you don't use this Simulator then you're nothing" crap. This attitude isn't going to get us anywhere.

Heck of a way to burn my 1000th post, but there it is.

I knew "opa" through his posts. He injected a calm into discussions and showed great patience as he walked someone through an elusive solution. He was a big part of what drew me into this community and his influence will continue to set the standard for cooperation and character in this forum. Remarkable how many lives his words and friendship touched. Even though as a newbie I asked the same questions as many others he logged on and did his best to help. He was a remarkable man and I would have liked to have known him.

    good flights, Cal

I'll always remember that about Opa. Even when discussions became heated, he would keep the cooler head and was able to calm things down.
He was usually first to offer solutions to someone's problems as well. Just a great guy all around, and this forum, though still great, still feels somewhat empty without him around.

    RIP.
