Thread: FSx fps ----- Calling all gurus relating to anti aliasing and fps

  1. Default FSx fps ----- Calling all gurus relating to anti aliasing and fps

Some folks say to let your graphics card software control your graphics variables.

    Others say not.

I have set my fps to unlimited (in fsx) and sometimes I remember to set the card settings to limit frame rate and sometimes I do not.

What is kind of surprising me is that it seems to run well at high frame rates like, 60fps. Ok I have to admit I have not yet tried it in dense scenery.

I have read about people running flight sim at 60fps but this is surprising me that my system can do it.

The only thing that would make me want to back down to 30fps is that seems to be the target for apps like fraps.

Then again even if I am running at 60 fps fraps is only going to capture at 30fps regardless.

I guess I just have to do some experimenting if no one responds.

However -- if some one wants to point me to a good description of what anti aliasing and antriscopic filtering, well I guess I have never really understood that. I know one setting basically just reduces jagged edges.

Any help would be great. thanks.

try wiki my friend... bottom line AA is for the jaggies, and AF is for blurry textures. Either way you are using more processing to clean up the picture image. So be careful these not only slow down the GPU/FPS, they also use up more memory. I wouldn't recommend anymore than what's available through the FSX menu so no need to use the graphics card software.

It's all explained here, and it does the job very good:

Who makes your video card and what speed are you running you CPU? The tweaks reffered to above are very good for high end systems. CPU above 4.0 and at least a 560 or 570 video card but not so for more lowerish end systems. Kosta's emphasizes that point. ( His tweaks are enabling Vsync which works well on high end sytems). Bujotes tweaks may be better then.

Nvidia inspector will resolve your AA jagged line issues and its always wiser to lock frames at 30 for optimum performance using the Nvidia Inspector FPS limiter.. If using Bujotes tweaks.
