Thread: Want to put large scenery files on different HDD

    Question Want to put large scenery files on different HDD

    I'm setting up my new PC, and have W7 OS on my 120gb SSD. I'm also putting the primary FSX on the SSD, but don't want to load a ton of scenery files there. I have another traditional HDD and would like to install the growing scenery library there. Question is, how do I do that? How will FSX know where to go for the scenery files? Is this the right forum to ask this question? Thanks.

    Scenery that you add to the FSX scenery library can go on the other drive and you would add it just like it was on the same drive as FSX. Scenery that needs to be installed into FSX still must be installed into FSX.

    Specific examples of the scenery will help us tell you where each can be placed.
    Thanks,

    Jim

    You can put any scenery that needs activation via the library, anywhere.
    I keep my favorite areas/airports on my SSD, with less important and HUGE files on a spinner.
    If you start seeing any stuttering when using a new scenery, on the spinner, you can move it to the SSD and see if it helps.

    To help with size, I segregated all of my AI planes into their own folder on the spinner.

    fsx.cfg:
    [Main]
    ...
    SimObjectPaths.6=E:\AI_Aircraft

    That picked up a lot of desirable SSD space...Don

    Thanks for the thoughts. I will be putting ORBX, MegaScenery, etc. on the other drive.
