Thread: Dash8 Engine Failure

  1. Default Dash8 Engine Failure

    Hi,

    I have the qfdh8.zip

Three times I have tried to fly with it out of NTL. In all cases after twenty minutes taxing and ground holds, the engines always shut down!

When I restart (CTRL+E) only the port engine starts. The starboard remains off with GEN active on the panel and all autopilot functions disabled.

    Any solutions?

I tried out a JetStar A320 on the same flight (to Sydney) and had no problems, so this isnt a sim issue.

First time the Dash has given me problems.

    Thanks

I was reading through the AVSIM forum about Dash 8 engine failures and it made mention of the prop reverse causing it. Are you using the reverse while taxiing?

I had a similar problem with a different airplane ...turned out I wasn't operating all the switches for batteries, generators, etc. correctly and the battery was dieing after about fifteen minutes.

I did that too! I was forgetting to turn on the APU's and sometimes forgot to turn off the battery! Total electrical failure either before takeoff or just after!

I tried a different Dash8 model that I linked to the same panel, and it failed too. Just like before the left engine restarted but the right one was out. I haven't touched any of the settings - I even started a fresh flight in the sim witht he same result.

May be the panel is at fault?

Could be a missing or corrupt gauge for that panel, or an error in the panel.cfg file - a break in the gauge numbering sequence, missing punctuation, a period instead of a comma, ...all sorts of gremlins to check for.

I'm currently using the WestJet-livery Q400 model (don't know the author of the model). It is good but I was hoping for more realism in terms of plane controls. What is the best dash8 model around?

Try sticking another panel in there and see how it goes.

    There's an obvious point!!!

I'll do that. I'll let the engines tick over for thirty minutes or there abouts, and if they're still good I might do a short flight to YSSY. If they hold up it has to be the panel.

    Thanks again.

It does appear that the panel is somehow at fault.

I did a 50 minute engine run on the 737 panel with the Dash with no problems.

I guess I'll have to look for a new dash panel
