Active Sky versus REX

Hi All,

I dont know if this has been covered before or not, but can someone please explain to me the relationship between REX and and active sky? I have REX and like it a lot, but am I missing something by not running active sky?

Active sky has the superior weather engine. REX has the superior graphics. They can run together. Simply uncheck the graphics on Activesky.

Hello Sean. I agree with Bill White; while both are great products alone... used together, they are truly incredible. The Active Sky weather engine is superior to the REX weather engine. I fly with real-time weather updates streaming always, so perfect (ie: smooth) weather depictions and transitions are very important to me. The AS will transfer the weather updates much smoother than the REX with much less 'sudden surprising' weather graphics changes during your flight. This is how (I) do it on my system:

1. Decide where I'm going to fly, select the date/time, research the weather patterns in the chosen area (ie: easiest method is check GoogleMaps online, select 'Satellite' and click the 'weather' tab in the right side menu box... the clouds will appear over the map image) This provides a nice view of the current weather conditions for any chosen area on a global scale.

2. Open REX software, select Weather tab, select Real-Time Weather. Enter your chosen airport ICAO code and click Submit button. REX displays the chosen airport weather.
2A. At this point you have to make a decision. Either select the airport you entered in the box, and click the WX Textures (loads for the chosen airport) ...or select the FlightPlan Button below, and either load/import an existing FS flightplan, or create a new one using the REX interface.

3. STOP! Remember; do not load and fly with the REX WX software (we're using it for textures only). Let the REX software gather all of the weather information. Then click the WX Textures button below. Once REX has finished loading all of the textures/information into FS, then exit the REX software completely.

4. Open your Active Sky software and let it load up completely. Since the weather textures are now preloaded from the REX, all you have to do is either load a flightplan into the AS software interface, or just simply go fly anywhere you choose to. The AS will use the large array of beautiful REX textures, and incorporate them seamlessly into the AS weather interface. It works perfectly every single time!
